Well I don’t have nearly as much progress as some of the other Trackster guys on here but I am plugging away and I thought one way to keep up some momentum is to post up my project.
A little background; I saw my first trackster ~20 years ago, there is a local guy that has one that was used for trail grooming and for installation of power lines (he was a supervisor that would use it to get to job sites). I always thought they were cool then I was in the pipeline business and saw a lot of different tracked machines. I was starting to scratch design one (I’m an engineer that had a lot of time at that point) but then I saw this basket case and figured it would be a better start than nothing. Maybe I was wrong about that!!!
So I brought this home, motor didn’t run, tracks are a wreck, body is so so, seat destroyed, dash destroyed, budget is minimal.
So far I have removed motor, made a new motor mount, bought a Honda GX670, designed a drive system to transfer power from a horizontal motor to a trans that is mounted at 13 deg from horizontal, built the parts and now am ready to try to assemble.
Once I get the motor hooked up I would like to do a brief test (read thrash in the woods) before I disassemble again for paint, rebuild suspension and replace tracks.
I hope you guys find it interesting. I expect this to take a looooonnnnnnnggggg time.
Nick
