Jigger ?anyone know about them?

Going to look at one tomarrow,dont know much about them but hey it looks cool.This one says it only has a 3hp engine,does that sound right?Looks like its all there and he wants $700,is that in the ball park?I think I'm getting addicted to these damn thingsstill working on my tiger and bringing another project home.Well be honest guys tell me if its worth it or not.Thanks

Jigers

Smallest stock motor was a JLO 8hp 2 cycle that used a rich 16:1 oil mixter

The first ones were made in Rexdale Ontario Canada and the Copany was called Jiger Corp then the were made IN Brampton by Breton Versatrek Ltd. . The machines look the same but were very different mechanical

The went threw a few changes some even came with two motors left and right
Most that you may see now are modified and have little to no stock hardware.
They can date back to the late 50’s but most were produced in the 60’s and the last few were made in the early 70’s. I do not think you would find one in original condition with balloon tires but the tubs seem to last unless they get extreme UV sun damage.


The cool thing was they were very light 240lbs and swam very well

Tricky question

To some it may be worth allot given the history of the vehicle and how light it is to others it may be just a fixer up AATV

I am not totally sure by the Photo but if I were to guess that is not the original engine. This is no surprise most people killed the original engine because they were not aware of its incredible high oil to gas mixture.

I also have not seen one with the Jiger Logo on the back like that but it could be an option ,something an original owner put on or something the did when they exported them out side of Canada.

I grew up near the original Rexdale location were these we’re made and there was some resentment to the ones made in Brampton. Some say they were not as good but it could have been more of a political issue. There were some significant mechanical changes thought its development.

I myself have not seen one with a Hydrostatic drive but have herd of them doing that on the latest models
Only in my opinion and from what little I see I would say under $900 because it has Turf tires that are no good for swimming or turning an engine that needs upgrading plus I am sure is it needs a few more things. Body looks good the Back end looks different then the ones I Have seen almost looks like they were making room for a water jet pump option

Briton Versatrek Jiger

i believe that is a Briton Versatrek Jiger. They are the 2nd generation Jiger made after the inventor/founder sold the company. They were heavier (and slightly bigger) than the original Jigers at about 450 lbs because of the added complexity of the hyrdaulic drive setup and the reverse gear equipped tranny. You can download some manuals in PDF format from www.jiger.ca website. I have one of these waiting on me to get to work on it.

I was not aware that they had made such a significant weight increase but think the early versatreks were just a continuation of the Jiger corps old stock then went threw a body change. That back end does look allot different then any Jiger I have seen or put my hands on. The Inventor /founder did not sell unfortunately he was forced out of business.

To me it looks like the twin chainsaw engined early jiger, if it's a hydrostatic one why does it have all the chains driven from the engine? the original few had 5hp chainsaw engines and thats whay I see there, have a look over on the jiger.ca site and see if there is any more information. I cannot think what mine is like at the back (early 152) but it's under 6 ft of snow at the moment!
Ok I relooked at the picture, it is indeed a hydrostatic version. the good thing is you get away from the original transmission that is almost impossible to find a good one, the bad is the hydro fluid can tend to overheat and the sytem robs a fair amount of power. It's quite a bit heavier but for $700 you can't go far wrong if it's compleate

I know what you are thinking

The hydrostatic is just the differential/Transmission not the whole power drive system.
The whole power drive system would be really cool but too pricey

Yeah, I was wondering that. I would have thought if you put that much thought to the transmission you would do more, but I guess the original was to costly to reproduce, either that or they couldn't get the rights to it as it was a nice simple drive mechanism but very small. I never looked to much past the 152 as that was all the information I was needing at the time. Can't wait to get stuck into it this spring.

Still trying to convince myself(and the wife of course) that I need another one.The guy went out of town till sunday so I will go then.Sticking alot of money into a terra tiger now and I know this one needs atleast tires,and a bigger engine ,so even more money,but he also said he would take $600 for it so thats gets me right back to thinking again, Think I could get my money back out of it after doing that to it?

For what it is worth it is a unique AATV and the body looks to be in good condition .

If this is the same one that is for sale in Scandia/Forest Lake, it's got a big hole in the bottom of the tub and some smaller ones according to the seller's ad. The pictures posted in his ad appear to be the same as posted here.
