      Hey Zack:
You asked about top speed. I managed to hit 18mph according to GPS. I think it would be a bit quicker but I've got an issue with my high gear. Low gear is a real stump puller. The manual I picked up says low is a 164 to 1 ratio and I believe it.
I'm thinking along with Coop about switching over to hydraulic power, that will likewise give it some seriously low gearing. As for high speed its not that kind of machine, big and tough and a bit rough riding.
I think a Coot feels best at about 8 mph based upon my limited runs so far. I do mostly run in swamps though and I've got the big tires on mine.

Low gear is a stump puller eh!??!! SWEEEET!! other than riding at ashtabula, thats why i wanted this old girl! lol I wanted to be able to skid some logs with it cuz my mule just wont do it sometimes! lol I got my bronco for the BIG SHTUFF!!! (can be seen in back ground of my pictures) The bronco does the HUUGE stuff only. of it i get something stuck and i wanna pull it out, i use that. THe coots drive terrain, and the gear reduction will make it perfect for my area i live in. all the Huge rocks, and rough freaking terrain is why i wanted the coot. Its ability to move around, and over, while taking the bashing on the rocks is the biggest thing. Everyone always heard me complaining about "rocks' and how the attex wouldnt survive in this area...well, thats when i found the coots and set out to find one! lol It'll do GREAT around here, Pullin logs, Taking rides, and having fun! Ill enjoy this hog! It'll be like a mini bronco! Muhahahahaa!!

According to the manual scott sent me, it uses 5x4.5 lug wheels..Thats great! lol Rangers, Jeeps use the same pattern! I have access to about a dozen different kinda wheels from those vehicles..including aluminum ones. 14" and 15"...and i dunno IF i could....but i do have a set of 35" boggers..LOL Doods......thatd be insane! i might just mount a set to take pictures of it! hahahaha. Oh man, thatd be NUTS! As for running though, ill prolly just mount up some good tires on 15" rims, and throw tire chains on it the whole way around.

This thing is gonna be great! i cant wait to get it all figured out and running like a champ! Man, imma have a blast in it!! lol Woot!!

Glad to help you secure a new toy, Wagz. I tend to be a bad influence like that.....and other ways I won't discuss on here. It looks like there's enough good sheet metal for you to weld patch panels on. And it looks like the Coot bronze gears that everyone seems to always strip or wear out are in excellent shape on yours. I can't stand those BS tricks sellers on Craigslist try to pull. You called his bluff so well and he knew you saw right through the crap he was trying to feed you, haha. Well done! Looking forward to seeing the progress on it!

Thanks joe! Hope to see yinz all out there soon! hahaha

SO heres a question, say i had a secondary (driven) clutch sittin here that someone donated me for a science project...If it was from a 2 stroke, could i use it on a trans if shaft matches the bore diameter? Will i need to change spring or whats up? (CLUTCH GURU's...this is for you..lol)

Just trying to get my ducks in a line before i do any thing.

I suspect if you use a 2 stroke clutch with a 4 stroke engine you will have to change either the weights or springs, maybe both, otherwise the clutch wont shift properly due to the much lower rpm of the 4 stroke. I know that is true of the drive clutch, not sure about the driven. I put the new torque sensitive clutches on my COOT, they work off torque rather than rpm.

So dis-assembly started lastnight, and all i can say is...

all i have to say is.."HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!" the axle tubes were a fight. Mixed up a concotion of acetone and atf, left them soak all day while i was at work, came home and still fought them!! i ended up taking the 3 bolts outta the aluminum housing, sliding whole assembly out a bit and then proceeded to beat the living snot outta the aluminum housings till the worked loose. Didnt damage them either to thats a plus. You say those were O-Rings eh? lol I can guarantee they were sealed on the tube, thats FOR SURE! hahaha. Upon removing the tubes i noticed some areas with pin holes along the tube, so not sure EXACTLY what my plan is, but imma measure the tube and see what the "ID" of it is, and possibly just replace them using the old outter flanges. Looks like Exhaust pipe to be honest with ya..thin walled tube with a seam in it, if i could find similar tube, i know i can get an o-ring that'll fit...we got TONS of O-rings for all the CAT equipment we work on.

Your already making progress, Wagz! Good to hear.....just from the pics it looks like that rust must have really been a SOB. You're a determined man to be doing this and the results will be well worth it when you're out cruising on the trails.

We all understand this as we get older. My health is something i wish i had taken better care of too, but we all live and learn the hard way at some point n time. but onto better things to talk about. The front tt brass gear looks GREAT!! Super shiny and clean, shows almost NO wear on it at all. Spectacular!! im ****ing pumped guys! This MOther Loving Thing is gonna be sweeeeeet when im done with it. I DOUBT ill have it ready for Ash, but hey who knows. Still need some BIG, Expensive parts for it yet. (motor, Clutch's...Thats about it really?) the other stuff is basically easily had but will come with time. I got about 100 different irons on the fire too so that throws a wrench into my big plan of things. haha. But yah, so far...thats it for progress on the Krusty Coot-sader so far... Ill keep posting as i go!
