Are you planning on using heavier chain.

yes at least #50 maybe #60, but that's besides the point if i cant figured out this water sealing deal im stuck here with ether not using it in the water at all.. which id like to be able to thats one of the main reasons for restoring it.. or stick with stock sized axles and chains and what not and not upgrade anything..

          Where are you located?
I have a set of older maxII axles that probably could be made to work for you.
Take a look at how MaxII bearings mount on the outside of the tub http://www.6x6world.com/forums/conte...placement.html
And look at how Argo bearings mount. adairargosales - HD Bearing Adapter Kit Since you are starting from scratch, the HDI bearing upgrade kit may be a good way to go. It will give you an excellent quality 72mm O.D. bearing.
At some point you have to stop and consider the cost to upgrade though.....you can easily put far more money into that 40 y.o. machine than just buying a newer modern machine with the 4 stroke.

im located in romulus how much are you trying to get for those axles..

i do agree about cost but i figured if i had under 1000 to fix it up. and i paid 400 for it i think its worth 1400 bucks fixed if i do all the work.. which is 1/2 the fun right?

remember this was a working riding machine, just worn out.. i could always just fix the stock parts...

decided to bite the bullet and take the dive.. today was a long day with the frame..

cut some 5x5 inch plates and welded them over the existing bearing mounts the idea is to move the bearing to the out side of the tub.. and ive thought about it i prob wont do much boat/swamp ridding so ill stick with this setup for the time being.. IMG_1799.jpgIMG_1800.jpgIMG_1801.jpgIMG_1804.jpgIMG_1821.jpg

this is gonna be the bearings im using the 4 bolt will be mounted on the out side.. the 2 bolt will be mounted on the inside far out side frame rail IMG_1802.jpgIMG_1803.jpg

had to notch the part that holds the trans/drive clutch bearings so that the bolts for the larger bearings will fitIMG_1815.jpgIMG_1816.jpgIMG_1817.jpg

then while at it i took the notched part of the frame to make the hitch mount strongerIMG_1818.jpgIMG_1819.jpg

i still gotta drill out the part that mounts to the frame so it has 4 bolts and not just 2

still kicking this project haven't given up just had to wait on some pars got my bearings and axles started to install and mock up some parts the axles for sure need cut shorter but not sure where yet.. still gotta get sprockets and chains but that wasn't important yet

tho i did have to notch the motor plate and trans mounting plate to fit the bigger bearings in

also did some body repairing but dont have no pics of that still needs alot of work with the body but is coming together

That's really cool! The Legos in Acetone is a pretty popular repair technique with the Attex folks as well.

Just an FYI you gotta buy acetone not nail polish remover the remover must have sow thing else in it because the Legos would only get soft I went to the hard ware and picked up some pure acetone and they melted right down

Looking good! I believe you are making a great investment in the frame. That will payoff down the road(trail).

I'm sure it's a good move the old solid axles are so small they fit inside the new axles and still have plenty of room to float around in side so far I have under 300 bucks invested about 90bucks in chromoly tubing and about 160 on bearings I'm not to amazed by the bearings but I had to figure out something for mounting flanges so I guess I'll ride these bearing and then Try to find some triple lipped sealed bearings to fit these flanges all the steel I'm using was free along with welding just takes time

Only thing I need to buy still is sprockets and chains which I'm debating do you think I really would need #60 chain or is #50 good enough
