Hello, new to the site and the 6x6 World. Just picked up a Scrambler 4000 4 seater. Great tub but missing motor and trans. So I have a clean slate. I kind of want to have a little speed in it for hanging with the quads, but dont want 2 stroke. I do want reverse. Any sugestions or more info on this thing? I can fab just about anything, but new to these things..

Hi motodad111, welcome to the forum. I'm not very familiar with Scramblers so I can't comment on what engines and transmissions will fit. Others will chime in there. Generally though, you can get a mild 4 stroke briggs that will turn 5500 RPM without any issues. That will give you a basis to start calculating your gearing and top end. Good luck with your build.

Member Flippy put a maxII frame and t-20 trans in his
You are not very far from me. You are welcome to come to my place and check out MaxII's and t-20 trans. I also have a maxII frame you could have.
Hanging with the quads is not a very good idea. With no suspension, it will either beat you to death or you will crash. I've done it (with a 40 horse motor), and it amounts to being full throttle to full brake for obstacles, back to full throttle to catch back up. Instead of riding with them,.......make them ride with you. See if they can keep up through the mud and water holes. They will start going around the spots you go through.
If you want a better idea about our machines, we have a ride coming up this weekend. http://www.6x6world.com/forums/trail...pin-acres.html
Send me a PM if you want to catch a ride there. I'm sure we can find an extra seat for you on the trails.

I have two original manuals for early Scramblers. I am currently upgrading mine. I could copy them for you if you want to send a stamped envelope. A T-20 would work well but size restrictions in engine compartment make it tough to retain the rear seat. I put the engine higher up in the frame and gained room that way. I have the post right next to yours, my scrambler mods. The original clutch/ brake steering does work but the use of small roll pins gave me problems with reliability. I keyed my drive clutch discs to the shaft and deleted the roll pins. Same with cultch release arms. I like the longer wheelbase. Let me know if you want copies of the manuals. Good luck.

Scrambler bodies seem to be good tough fiberglass......there are a lot of them out there with missing or bad drive mechanisms.
The t-20 is a big upgrade for one, plus it has the added benefit of REVERSE. A few scramblers did come with an electric motor for reverse, but it was only good to back off a trailer or out of the garage.
The steering wheel/t-20 has been done before, but once you get used to sticks, they will out perform a steering wheel.

You could try the throttle pedal though some find them awkward, the brake pedal assy. would come in handy if you were to incorporate a parking/descent brake system.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

My first machine was a Sears Sportster

The sportster has foot brake, and throttle. It gets hard to operate a steady throttle as you bounce around.
