  • Eagle Information/Help!

Thanks, Mike for pointing out those brochures! I kinda knew in the back of my mind that Coots and Eagles are similar, but I never made the connection.
My Eagle has been out in the elements for at least seven years and if it wasn't for that it would probably be a much nicer specimen than it is today. It has a few little things that can be fixed: stuck torque converter (pretty much unstuck at this point), dry rotted tires, and a rusty gas tank. However, the worst problem is aluminum corrosion. The flanges on the front and rear worm boxes (I think thats what they're called), both the ones on the drive shaft and the ones on the axle, are either cracked, cracking, or have fallen off completely. Does anybody know if other ATV manufacturers used the same parts, or do I have to attempt to make them myself? I'm pretty sure that OEM is nonexistent at this point. Somebody please prove me wrong!
Some other things that I've been trying to figure out is that I have no idea how many of these things are left, when mine was built and how many they made in the first place. Also what ever happened to the company that made them?

Something that I forgot to mention in my thread: does anybody have one of
these? I'd love to see some pictures. I guess while I'm at it, I'll attach some
pictures of my Eagle's problem area.

The pictures show what looks to be a standard 4 bolt flange bearing housing. I doubt they used anything special for that application. Richard Clark would definitely have some information and parts for that machine. I would start looking at 4 bolt flange bearings and see how they measure up against what you have.

        This is from Grainger.

Thanks! I'm sure that would work. Here's a better picture of the front. The flange is actually rectangular, but I think a square one would work. I'd have to
figure out something creative to keep it watertight though.

Just got a reply from Richard Clark. He said that they only have belts, clutches
and some trans parts. Do you know the bolt pattern for the one from Grainger?
Their website didn't say. I know that if it would work then I probably wouldn't
need a tapered bearing, but my Bother said that if I didn't, the worm drive would put excessive wear on the flange bearing. The flanges alone are gonna
be 200 dollars, so I'd like them to last.

You got me wondering a little more about the Eagle and it's history. I looked on coot world and found that there were only 200 Eagles ever made. They were all made in 1969 and they were all sold in 1970. The company was then sold. Before it was sold, they started manufacturing the Eagle T (see the brochure in the posts above) but only made 15 of those and all 15 were sold to the same customer.

Here's the thread that I'm getting that information from. It came directly from the man who owned the company: DCForum+ Version 1.1 - Viewing topic #1179 - EAGLE ATV / coot clone

I know this doesn't help with your flange problem but I thought you might like to know a little more about how rare your AATV is. You can probably find a little more info over at CootWorld

                Mike you are the man!
That was exactly the information that I hoped for. I kinda feel bad about it
sitting in the elements for all those years now, knowing that they made so few.
That gives me a lot of motivation to get her working the way she was supposed to. I wish I knew more about the previous owner(s) of my Eagle now. It could have quite a story behind it...

                  I have the same need

did you have any luck matching the four bolt flange replacements you needed for the eagle? I have the same machine and all of the flanges are cracked.. i'm afraid to touch them. I heard that the manual had all the specs and measurements for the flanges. Ever hear that?
