I ripped apart two of the three primary drive shafts. The shear pins were an unbelievable PIA to get out, but most of the rest of the pieces came out OK....until I got the driven clutches. I could not get either off of the shaft. So I am going to roll the dice and hope that they are still operational. So, instead of having new shafts made (because the shear pin holes are a little egged out), I am going to have the holes filled and redrill.
QUESTION #1:
Is there any way to bench test the driven clutches to see if they are operational?
Next, I found a local guy that will re-line my clutches for $20 each. It is such a sweet deal that I decided to tear apart the third Primary Drive Shaft (PDS) and take those clutches in too. I think the third primary drive was probably recently rebuilt by Richards Relics....at least that is what the seller told me. I say recent, but I think it has sat for a number of years. The third one did not have shear pins, but instead, grade 5 bolts with nuts. When I pulled the bolts out, the clutches and everything sprung out pretty strongly. The other two did not "spring out" at all. So I am guessing that I need to replace the springs on the other two.
QUESTION #2
What springs do y'all recommend to replace the ones I took out and where can I get them?
QUESTION #3
When I drop the clutches for re-lining, are there any special instructions? I believe the material needs to be 3/16", is that correct? Also, what is the best clutch material for these?
