  • What is this and what are your thoughts???

I have a chance to buy this amphib track rig, but have not a clue what it is. Supposedly it was built in Minnesota and has similar drivetrain as a max with a 22 hp Kohler and planetary gearbox. It appears to be in good mechanical condition. It is heavier than an Argo being made of metal, but it looks like it would be quite capable. I can get it for $3,500 but just wanted to see if anyone knows what it is and if it's worth messing with.

A Mans level of mechanical education directly corresponds to the level pain suffered while getting it

Supposedly it has a 22hp Kohler. I have not looked at it up close yet, it is located 1 1/2 drive away. The tires and chains are all new and everything is in good working condition.

I really don't know much about these kind of rigs, but I believe it's a Catagator. There are some members on the site, such as Joe M. that own these. They don't have the same drivetrain as a Max.......the Max uses a T-20 Borg Warner Skid Steer transmission.

I'm heading down the road to pick it up tonight. It will be primarily used for hunting access across creeks and grassy wetland areas. My four-wheeler was a struggle to maneuver when loaded with gear. With this I can just throw my gear in the bed, put my coffee cup in the cup holder and hit the trail. I will probably get some canvas door covers and a little heater, maybe even a windshield wiper setup. The guy said that these thing are built very industrial and that is what others online seem to say as well. I will post some more pictures later this weekend once I get it home in that garage and check it out.

After getting it in the garage I found out that it has an Onan CCKB 20 H.P. engine rather then a Kohler. I have no idea if this is good or bad or indifferent. I'm also already thinking about getting a set of 25" Rawhides to run in the summer and save the tracks for winter. The existing dual wheels for the track setup appear to be just a single nut on a splined shaft. Does anyone know if there are any kind wheel adapters so you could use standard rims or what is the best way to do this? I saw this picture and this is what I want to do.
