  • 20 hp honda v-twin for scrambler?

I bought a four person scrambler and it's a total rebuild. No motor, missing left side brakes, no chains, so on and so on. My questions are: IF i can find the parts to put it back to original transmission wise is the 20 hp too much engine for the drive train?
IF i can fit the motor in, can i find a clutch to work with this engine. The engine is currently sitting on a 5000 psi pressure washer. I really respect everyone's opinion on this site so any input is welcome

I have a 16hp flat twin Briggs in mine and I know for a fact the tranny gave me problems.I did add clutch material to the entire clutch disc.If the clutches start slipping they will overheat.I personally would do it if I already had the motor.I think I would buy a t-20 if possible.Trying to find scrambler transmission parts is very difficult.I had a complete 30 year rust bucket but all the parts were there.

I like the idea of going with a t-20 instead of the original transmission ( reverse and all) but does that mean the steering wheel goes away and i need to install laterals? I like the looks of the steering wheel but I am missing half the tranny so something is going to have to give, thanks for the input Flippy!

The steering wheel wouldn't necessarily have to go away. If you had to have it you could but I think the laterals would give you more control so that you could operate both sides completely independent of one another. There is a member on this site who added a steering wheel to his Max II. He has pictures in the gallery showing the linkage and how it works. If you are set on a steering wheel you can check that out to get an idea of what it will take.

Thanks for the advise Mike. I did a little looking around in the gallery but couldn't find those pics. Will keep looking. All this 6x6 stuff is new to me but I have always wanted one and now just trying to educate myself before I start ripping it apart. The excitement is electric and cant wait to get it running!

Sorry, I thought the photos were in the gallery but they were attached to this thread: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/max-a...el-set-up.html
