I'd like to hear more about the plastic stapler. The "S" curved staples look very cool; where did it come from? I think a good report on it (where you got it, how much, techniques) would be worthy of a sticky... Nice repair work; you've come a long way....

I have worked on cars all my life and I got to thinking about it and I knew there were different staplers out there to repair broken plastic pieces for cars. I started doing some research and the best I could find was almost $600. Then I thought about Eastwood Company. I have dealt with them for years and I figured this might be the tool that they would make. I checked and wouldn’t you know it they do. I got mine on sale for 149.99 and free shipping. Normally they are 199.99. I ordered it and it came in about four days. It comes with a transformer with an on/off switch. The transformer also has three heat settings, low, and medium, high. You set the heat range depending on the thickness of the plastic. I used mine on the high setting and it melted through like a hot knife through butter. The set also comes with the power wand and 100 each of flat staples, corner staples, and wave staples. All you do is set the crack how you want it to be repaired. Put the tangs of the staple in the end of the wand, push and hold the button on the side of the wand and it is ready to use in about 10/15 seconds. While still holding the button you push the staple into the plastic keeping the tangs parallel with the crack and it melts right in. The hardest part is judging how far to push the staple in. It gets easy after you do a few. I only went through once the entire time I used it. Take your finger off the button and hold the wand still for a few seconds to let it cool and then pull the wand off. It is that easy. After all of the repairs are done you cut the tangs off the staples. Then to finish you just use a soldering iron to smooth the plastic out or in my case I used a grinder to rough it up and then covered everything with plastic goo just to give it a little more strength. I really like this tool. What I really like about it is you can do instant repairs at the track as long as you have a 120 volt outlet for power. I plan on bringing it with me just in case.

            Building a Racer update

Damn! I was sick for a week! Finally got to go out to the garage today. Rebuilt the 440! Tomorrow I will finish it up with the fan and set the timing and then it will be time to get back to the frame and put the bearings and engine mount in.

Just a little update. I didn't take any pictures but my seat bracket is in and my bearings are in. I should have my axles in another week and I am waiting for another set of bands to be relined (I put mine in my wife's Attex).

It has taken a heck of a lot longer than I thought but it looks like I might finally be racing this year!

Way cool! Can't wait to see it go.
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

                    (6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far

                        Racer Update #2

All that is left is a belt guard and some carb tuning (tuning will happen at the track). Can't wait to try it out!

I see another project hiding in the background, want to see pictures of that when done. Hate I had to sell the 3 I had.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
