New springer build

Well after doing cart wheels in two races this year in the Bumpkin II the wife says I need a more stable machine. I feel it is a little too light for open wheeled competition and needs to be stretched out. This will of course require more hp which will be supplied by an Artic Cat 550 liquid. An old racing buddy gave me an old stretched Attex style frame years ago so I dragged it out of the barn and will modify it into the Bumpkin III. Do any of of you old time racers recognize this frame?
It had a front mounted motor with the t-20 behind it and a 4 chain set up with 1 1/4" axels. It may have been put into a rim body. I think I will use the original Country Bumpkin set up with this one. I'll post more pics as this progresses along.

Made a little progress on the springer. I stripped the frame of the old tranny and motor mounts and narrowed the back frame rails to accept the short axels from Bumpkin II. The front axels will be longer 1 1/4" splined to transfer drive from the T 20 to the back two. I need to finish up the pee wee to make more elbow room in the garage! As you can see in the one pic, the Bumpkin II is slowly disappearing, kind of sad.

Coulda just 4 stroked it and still played with it. A picture of the 3 on the table top would be history re revisited.

Whatever is left of the bumpkin II, I would love to trade you for parts or something. As far as looks and style go, it was always my favorite old school machine. Even if it's not raceable ever again, it's a very cool piece of history that deserves saved.

Here are more pics out of the Bumpkin skunk works. I got the motor and transmission mount done and figured out the muffler mounting. Boy what a job getting everything to line up and hit and miss everything it needs to! The motor and tranny will pivot up together to tighten the front chain. I like this set up because it eliminates the need for chain adjusters. It only needs 1 inch of travel to take out one link in the chain. More to come.

I got the chain adjusters done today. I made the Attex style adjusters thicker and added an adjuster bolt. The front adjusters are bolted through the frame so they can be tightened from the outside. Those Attex adjusters were always a pita to tighten up the two nuts on the inside, so this will be quicker and easier. Starting to look like something, it has a seat!
