    I'd have to agree.

It seems everyone is getting to the point that we need to get more folks out to the rides/rallies/races in general in order to get more entries into NEEDT. I wish I had a solution.

    • My 4-stroke Attex is designed to be a quick change racer/trail machine. The factory seat/engine cover/floor board is removed. Then, the cage bolts onto the frame and body. Both my racing seat and belts are mounted to the cage.

Most people are probably surprised to hear this - because I've only converted it from trail machine to racer once. The last time it was used in trail form was at the final Ledges ride. During the Ashtabula events it wasn't fun trail riding as I was worried about breaking something before the race. Come Saturday night it's time to change into race form, and it takes quite a bit of time. I'd rather kick back at the campfire.

As in all forms of racing, the vehicle is usually the cheapest part. The truck and trailer setup, gas to events, entry fees, time off work, the weeks leading up to prepare for the race, etc is expensive. After a person designs a safe machine with good tires/rims, sprockets, chains, electrical, etc I don't believe the engine costs will change participation numbers. Spending a bit extra to have a ported racing engine is a micro cost in retrospect to the racing season.

      • So: any ideas on how to get more bodies out to the trail rides/ events?

The dual-purpose machine always seemed like a good idea to me, but in reality mine didn't work out that well. When Q was racing and doing atv rodeos, we built his Attex so four bolts would pull out the bench seat and bolt in a bucket/harness. What we ended up with was a two-stroke trail machine or racer with a high center of gravity. It was a quick change but didn't do either job extremely well.

        • I may be wrong but when we have our get trail rides at Pine Lake it is more like a tight knit group. I think a good start would be to invite people we know to a trail ride who don't have a machine. We could take them out, let them drive one themselves and maybe then they might be more inclined to build/buy one for themselves. Then that may morf into some more racers. When I started, trail riding was all I wanted to do and then I saw a few races and I was hooked.

          • Maybe at the Hare Scramble we should have a questionnaire when the event fees are collected. or as a group of racers we can visit other riders and distribute a flyer with the events and rules and contacts.. At least we can have direct feedback.

              • I think another problem we face is people out there with racers are not aware that we have gone back to racing perfect example three attex racers up for sale on facebook today.

                  • The brown max my buddy Rick rebuilt "was" a racer at one time according to the older fella he bought it from, he said he used to race in ohio in the 70s but for the life of me I cant remeber his name.Red max with chrome factory 3 point roll bar, lives just accross border in Iowa. Charles or Robert comes to mind but neither of us could remeber the guys name!!
anyway he knew the Fischer name so I dont think he was pullig my leg.
cool story anyway, I'd say he was about 65 to 70 years old now

                      • I think ill document a budget spec Attex build to see what the actual costs. including plans for roll bar bends, chassis changes etc. ABS, T-20 4-chain 4 stroke. I have a Body and chassis lined up. Hopefully its cheap, fast and reliable.
BTW i think doing a sales effort maybe with a cooler full of beer at the Hare Scramble may get some answers.

                          • Just checked NEEDT 6 wheeler points and they are screwed up and incomplete. Maybe they are still working on them.
