This is correct.Originally posted by kezef View Postso am I right that with a heavy duty rollbar I don't need helmets
I'm with you. I don't want anyone hurt but I average around 3MPH and a helmet is not necessary for riding on my rig. No one will be checking the rigidity of your ROPS - paint some PVC flat black and roll on.Originally posted by highrollinmopars View PostI think everyone should go get some emt conduit and whip out some cheap "roll "cages"

I think everyone should go get some emt conduit and whip out some cheap "roll "cages". Make them detachable so you can throw them away when your done. Im all about safety but if you roll a 8x8 on top off you a helmet probably time wont make you feel much better.

I'd wonder if a Bike helmet would work to let it slide. I ride faster on my mountain bike than in that soupy mud. I guess I'll bring a second helmet too, just in case.
I double I'll have the time to get a machine ready, MAYBE, but I don't think so. I'll have to sidestep the bottomless mud pits with the bike but at least I'll still be 2-strokin

I got lucky. Started a mad dash to call around and locate some metal appropriate to fab a ROPS. I found 80' of 2"x2" 14ga steel square tubing (8 10' pieces) for $15 per 10ft on craigslist. I called to inquire and the fellas wife is screaming at him to get rid of it so he sold the whole lot for $50! (This may still be a ripoff as I've never bought the stuff before, but at 60% off asking price I feel like I'm getting a deal.) I left a message with Robbie (rdr) to see about some welding work, just waiting to hear back. I guess I could just bolt it all together? Either way, the Conquest will be fitted with a ROPS for Busco so I can avoid a helmet.

HELMETS FOR AATV OPERATORS AND RIDERS WITHOUT ROPS
Just spoke to a few reps from Busco, not sure of the first fellas name, the second was "Justin." They were pretty stern about helmets. They said the last few times a lot of us showed up without helmets so they let it slide but said this time would be different. I explained that my machine never comes out of low gear and tops out less than 10MPH, he said it just wasn't fair for the other riders. Other people saw AATV operators without helmets and complained.
Anyway - this is discouraging for me. I don't own a helmet and I'm positive neither of my guests do either. Not that I can't afford a few bucks for a helmet, but I don't wanna ride with one either!! Trying not to get crapped out. I don't have access to a welder to fab a cheap ROPS for the trip. What are the rest of you thinking??
