Fuel starvation on response

I have a Argo response that is experiencing fuel starvation problem. The motor( Briggs 18hp) was running fine then kept having a hard time staying running. Finally when I was trying to climb out of the pond it died. Glad the truck could make it to the water to pull it out as the battery died so no winch. I checked the fuel filter and it was not clogged. Pulled the hose and there was fuel but not alot. I could keep the engine running with carb cleaner. I have fresh non ethanol fuel in the tank so i know it not water in the fuel.

Any thoughts about what is causing the fuel problem?

I would start by cleaning the carburetor really well and running a bristle from a wire brush through all of the ports. You probably have some trash in there somewhere.

As Mike says - probe and poke and clean that carb -

Maybe check for a pinched hose - anywhere your fuel line is routed between frame and body

Also - you could have something loose where the carb bolts to the engine or an filter cover loose - if you are sucking any air in at any place - - that will starve off your fuel supply -

and dont forget your fuel pump - electric styles can have intermittent disconnects at plugs - pulse diaphragm types may need replacing if they have a hole or just dont pump any more

So I purrchased and installed a new briggs vaccum fuel pump and fuel filter onto the argo. The fule filter barely fills up but the argo runs. When I really get on it the argo dies and I can see the filter is empty. I tried seeing if there was an obstruction in the fuel line by applying a vcaccum (brake bleeder) to the out side of the filter and was pulling fuel fine(not sure of the amount of vaccum as my guage was broke). I inspected the fuel lines and vaccum line coming off of the head and they appear to be fine. Does anyone have any sugesstions?

Check your engine oil level, an over full engine can cause the oil to partially restrict the pulse.

Have you cleaned your carburetor yet? Like I said a couple of posts up, I would bet that you have trash in your carburetor, most likely in the main port at the bottom of the carb.

Hey Mike, is there a DIY write up anywhere that tells you how to remove the carb? or is it a no brainer when you get at it? I guess I could figure it out.

Hi! Had a similar problem so installed a low flow in-line electric pump. This also cured vapour lock problem. Good luck

the fuel filter barely fills up .... I had an engine that I had deal with this issue. Maybe the pulse circuit is weak or a hoes in that area is not tight on the barb -

The way I fixed that was by using my filter as reservoir - I installed 2 filters - one near the tank and one near the carb - the one near the carb I made sure was oriented so fuel would gather in it. This allows your carb to suck fuel easier by not having to get it from the far away tank..

There is most likely still a problem in your fuel supply or pulse line but this should help
