did it seize from sitting or from lack of oil?

Lack of oil, old green hasn't gone in to moose camp in a number of years but dad uses it on the homestead to haul in wood, lots of wood.
I'm hoping she in good enough shape to rebuild, the oil doesn't smell burnt so maybe I'll get lucky, he was just idling it back to the barn when it shutdown the first time.

Indeed, lack of oil will cause the engine to seize up.

Pull it apart and verify damage. After that if the price to repair is close to new buy new and go with that. I purchase my engines from Tulsa engine warehouse and have them shipped to Seattle then barge to AK.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into them and compare the price once I get the old one out.

I'm way to far to guess but have you removed the valve covers to see if the pushrods are on and it's not compression locked? Or have you removed the spark plugs? Kawasaki oil lights will flicker if the idle is low enough. We also had an issue with a carb filling the crankcase full.

photo (2).jpgWe'll I got her apart and found a broken oil pump gear laying in the bottom. I've pulled one head off and the cylinder looks good. So at this point I'm thinking I'll rebuild it.
