Kohler series 1 & series 2 differences??

I picked up an old project Argo 8 wheeler that has a 17hp Kohler in it. Supposedly it runs fine although I have some tinkering to do before I can test it. I just picked up a 2nd argo 8 wheeler from a small engine repair place for parts that has been sitting around there for a while. The owner said he thought he had the engine inside. Found it still attached to the engine/tranny frame (no tranny). He assumes that since it was buried on the bench it wasn't a runner but doesn't remember. Not sure of HP. No clutch. I will pick it up tomorrow.
My question is what were the differences between the plain Kohler (What I believe my project has) & the Series 2? What parts will NOT interchange?

The big difference in the two magnum engines is series1 has point ignition and a coil with two plug wires. Series 2,has magneto ignition with coils mounted on bosses on cylinders. The early engine dosent the places to mount mag coils. The two engines are internally very similar if not exact. I believe the magnum engine manual is on this site if not send me an email I have a copy.

Thank you sir. I have a hard copy of the series one manual. I got it to fire yesterday & it ran good as long as I'm manually pouring fuel in carb throat. I'm guessing fuel pump is bugered after sitting so long. Series 2 engine looks like it possibly sat out in the rain with 1 spark plug out. Maybe not. We shall see.
The series 2 is a threaded shaft. Not sure about my series 1. I'll look at the manual.

The stock fuel pump on the magnum engines is prone to getting crud in the check valves and failing to pick up fuel. I prefer the low pressure electric pump. Napa# 610-1051 works well.

Thanks, I may go that way. I was wondering how much is too much on pressure. I like electrics...

5psi if I recall is top3 is plenty. When I test the needle and seat with air (carb upside down) they usually won't hold 6psi.
