  • max IV diesel swap

I got a good deal on a 96? max IV this fall. Installed new chains and bearing all around and had fun drinking beer and driving over trees and through streams with a full load of entertained siblings and in-laws.
The kohler M20 that was in it runs good and seems to be in good condition, but it needed some carb attention and i got a good deal on a yazoo mower with a kubota d722.

The kohler is out of the max, kubota out of the mower and stub-shaft milled to accept the stock 780 clutch. I plan on fabbing a motor mount this afternoon and hopefully it will run by the end of the week.

As far as I can tell the kubota is set for 3200 rpm in the yazoo, so that will be bumped to 3800 or so and timing advanced 3* (pulling 2 shims from pump)

if all goes well and it performs OK the plan is to move transmission under rear seat and drop the engine down to get it lower in the chassis.

if performance is lacking a td015 or td02 turbo and a crank to the rack limit screw will be in order.

Don't have many pics at the moment, ill update as I progress.

Nice project. I am in the middle of doing the exact same thing. If you do a search i have a thread going. I am hoping to start painting parts this weekend and hopefully finish my axles.

Project has taken a while to get together with having to finish our house up and close out the construction loan. And getting married (at the house) has slowed it down a bit too.

Everything has been mocked up and installed on the frame. Pulled it all back apart and its going in the body this week. I hope to have entire drive train in tonight. after that is mounting radiator, building an exhaust and wiring.
I hope to have it drive able by this weekend. Will have to build a new engine cover and floor pan too because the rear seat is pushed back 5"
