hey guys. need a little help with the 295 jlo in my wild wolf. above about 1/3 throttle it runs terrible. i know this is about there it kicks into the high speed jet (mikuni VM carb) i would think that it neeeds a high speed jet change, but this is a problem that has devoleped in the time i've had the machine with no jet change. everything in the fuel system is clean or new. lines, new pump, carb cleaned. fuel pump seems to be working fine, so i think the crank seals are ok. points are clean, and set and a new spark plug. engine has good compression. can anyone think of something i might be overlooking?

hey race,
all that comes to mind is that maybe the pump can't keep up with the fuel needs at that rpm. if it's s new pump, then maybe the seals do need a once-over. my 295 ran about 160 psi compression, but I really don't know the bottom end of the desirable range for singles. if everything else is new and/or clesn, maybe check there....
good luck!

not to say that it still is, but it was fine last week when i had the flywheel off to recheck the pointsA well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Check the line from the block to the fuel pump. Well, replace it, not with neoprene but a rubber fuel line. If you get even a tiny little leak in that, it'll cause real nightmares in tuning. If the gas got some water in it, it won't burn right, it may even start backfiring at mid to high RPM, Just my first thoughts.Attex 295 Wild Wolf: sigpic My Runner

The 295 has this advance behind the flywheel. When we went to fire up JPs racer for the first time, we pulled the flywheel to clean the points off, and when I looked at the advance mechanism, it had a crack running right through it. Take it off and make sure it moves freely, Race. This is one of those things I never think of, but if everything else is lookin' good, it may have developed an issue since you've been running it.

If it wasn't for Mike, I never would have figured this problem out or got it fixed in time for Ashtabula either. I was lucky that Mike happened to have a couple of extra flywheels laying around. This is certainly one of those problems that you would least suspect, and from what you have described it seems very likely that it could be the culprit in this situation. Good luck with it and let us know what you find out, Brian."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

~mi pulled the carb back apart just to recheck my rechecks, and it looked fine. got the side cover off the engine so i can pull the flywheel, but i ran out of lunch hour. i'll get back out there tonight and report back with my findings. makes me really glad i didn't put the 2 bottom bolts back in last time i had the side cover off

advance unit is ok. moves freely. i'm pretty sure that my issue is with the carb. i had it appart 5 or 6 times with the throttle slide sticking issue, so that might explain how the thing keeps getting worse. i don't have another one to try, so it might just be a good time to put the machine up on blocks and start gutting it! the only reason i was trying to get it going was to brake the sprocket tubes loose anywayA well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
