Generac is a work horse. It also has a tapered shaft and i am not sure if we can get a clutch to fit it. It is used in the tractor pulls with great results. It was the one that designed the twin cylinder engine and sold B&S the design. Yes it is American made, the ONLY one.

Now which is better: If you are going to race and want to build it, the Generac will tow the line the best. The heads have 6 bolts, block is beefed up and when built right 10,000 rpm can be achieved,...but only for a short time. But it is costly. Mid westcub pullers run them, along with the Kohler. One of the items that have kept them out of our machines is no-one has every heard of them much. They would do great for our application.

B&S is a good engine, and the bandolero is a great engine also with a lot of spare parts and people that know how to build them to really perform. I have driven several of the machines with engine in them and they FLY!

Which is better: Neither and both. It's what your wallet can stand and your resources of people that know how to make them run well.

Stock they are the both great engines and both great high performance. The taper crank shaft can be changed out to a straight shaft.

This is a question like which is better: Argo's or a Max, they all have highs and lows. This will always be a matter of taste and opinion. Sorry but this is my opininon.

A fellow just recently was quoted around 1,750 for a 18hp....stock. The bandolero was 1,500.oo ready to go. The last time i checked with them 3 months ago. The are 35 minutes from my house. 5 minutes from where the wife works.

30 HP is as high as they go. But as Mike said they are closer to 28-29 HP they just call them 30hp.

Al Hodge is the one that built Whipper's and Bridget's engines he will build the same engine up to 50hp, but like i said earlier the price goes up. He is performance V- Twins. He only lives 30 minutes from my house. Going to see him next week for a engine, i must too make a decision on what to put in the springer. Here is his home page. Hope this link works, and then again sometimes you get to many choices.

Just an FYI, 600 Racing | Home is running a special on the bandolero motors right now. They are giving a 10% discount. I meant to post that earlier.

Alright Mike, now your making it harder for me to decide! 10% off is a pretty good savings. Thanks for the heads-up!

              kinda new to this

If your putting it in a springer I would put the bandolero in it. Because the springer can handle the bumps. Solid axles would be stock engines or maybe just above. I don't know about you but I don't like spine tinglers.

I have one for mine though I have not used it yet. I did drive Whipper's Scorpion with a Bandolero engine in it and it ran great.

Plenty of power and decent speed.

thank you for more bandolero info

Sounds to me bandolero is for racing. Thats the most bandolero info i seen. Personally i do not think it would work where i ride. Sounds like the bandolero is a good engine One thing about the generac so ask before you buy. when i got mine it showed the exhaust facing toward the rear of the engine in the pic . When i got it the exhaust was backwards facing the front of the machine. If i would not have got the exhaust i would of recieved 160.00 dollars off the engine. ALWAYS check make sure it is not a tapered shaft. MINE was not tapered. I am hoping to see more generac race engines comming out soon. Would like to see more about the kawasaki liquid cooling has it benefeits. I have a 17 horse on my hydro mower not liquid cooled but a good engine. Thank you all for the shared info it really helps others make decisions and hopefully the right one i am still learning alot

In my earlier post i noted that Generac was the only US made, Kohler is made here also but i think and do not know yet if they are merging Some of the engines were listed Generac/Kohler. Both as i said are fine engines. Maybe someone has some information on this. Then again this was on ebay, that is where i saw the advertisement.

its funny that generac is american made, and yet it is the cheapest v-twin you will find around...i looked into these for hustler if i end up reproducing them or some other atv.
                      btw it's a slow process...lol

What has really impressed us about our V-Twins engines & our Bandolero is that we never have had any issues of any kind with either of them. (I got some crap in my main jet during the Heat Race in Ashtabula, but once cleaned out, it was back to normal. ) They may be racing engines, but most times we're only cruising around about 1/2 throttle. When we go off on a side trail, we might be only 1/4 throttle & ride for 1/2 hr straight uphill. Usually when we open up in the desert, we don't go over 3/4 throttle (there's too many whoop-de- doo's & other obstacles that can come up on you way too quick) Even with springers, when you come up unexpectedly on whoop -de doo's at full throttle, all you can do is curse, keep the sticks forward & hope for the best. So, from our experience, we are thrilled with our racing engines & there is nothing like knowing you have the power IF you need it. We ride a lot & they have never dissappointed us. It's all been money well spent. Just wish we had more safe places like a track to race them full throttle more. , but I guess the point is, you don't have to.

I know, even if you are looking for more horsepower it's hard to argue with that price. I really wanted something outrageous in Jennifer's max but couldn't justify the extra money.

It's really not just for racing. Looking at the torque curve, you get good torque throughout the powerband. We use ours mainly for trail riding where we average only a few miles per hour. You have all of the benefits of the normal B&S Vtwin with the added benefit of having more power on tap for slinging mud or for high speed bursts.

If a stock B&S would work for you then a Bandolero motor will work as well. You will just have a little more fun compared to a stock motor. Really the only reason not to use one is if you are looking for more power out of the box. The low end range is still there.

I think in the future im gonna dare to be different and go with the 44hp generac but the question is what other mods would I have to do to run such a torquie motor? Axles, gears, jackshaft, clutch?????

Might order some axles from Whipper and some really good chain! That engine will produce better than 68 ft.lbs of torque, and being different is fine.

The machines we drive are not the main stream either, but we are happy with them and look at the number of member who are also different.
