  • Cylinder Honing Grit

Rebuilding a G50B. What grit stones would you guys use to hone the cylinders? Cylinders look nice, just a de-glaze.

I believe 240 is typically used. 320 is also popular but it often depends on the recommended finish for the rings you are going to use.

      hi ,
Your engine may have a recommended finish if u could find a manual grit no and angle

      4 stokes deglaze around 320

If u choose u could have it done by a machine shop
modern honing machines method can use a diamond hone 600 "grit"
A finer finish will give better sealing but the chance of glazing during the run in process is high
Although many have honed by hand for years a machine hone will give a better result even if u elect to go with a coarser finish

This all depends on ther condition of the bore [ does it measure up ] and the type of rings u will use
Typical measure ment are allowable up to 2 thousands of an inch wear taper and ovality
      3 thou is borderline
      3-5 thou time to rebore
