pulled the motor and put in a place i can work it. checked the points and they look good, gap is around .010 i think as i am new to feeler gauges. spec is .014 to .018. i will adjust the point gap to spec. can i check spark by turning the motor by hand on the bench to make sure it works? if so how do i hook the postitve on the battery to check the spark? also if this is not the problem how do i check out the condenser? also a link on how to take off the cvt clutch would be nice i havent looked for one yet but i'll look later. i will check out the coils as well but they should be fine.

thanks for help its a slow project now but next week i am on vacation and want to bust this thing out for the weekend, planning on going to the cat house.

What colour are the wires on the plug from the engine?
It looks like you have a magneto ignition.
No battery needed to start it.
Yes you can check for spark with the plugs out and pulling the cord.
2 yellow wires are ac volts to the rectifier.
2 black wires when shorted together by the ignition switch kills the spark.
      Brown wire is grounded
Blue with yellow stripe fires coil 1
      Blue fires coil 2
      Simple.....
If you have electric start you need a battery to turn the starter....lol

I am at work atm but that sounds right for the wires. I have no recoil starter but i can just use jumper cables on the starter to start it. One thing i do need to know is do i need carb and fuel/oil mix hooked up to test spark? My thought is with no fuel there is no lube and i dont want to buy a new motor.

        Thanks

No...it only takes a couple cranks to test for spark.
I would remove the plugs and ground them to the engine and crank it over in the dark.

Found a problem, one wire on one condenser is broken off, but i do not have spark on both cyl. Could a broken wire cause no spark on both? also this condenser only has one wire to it while the other has two.

Replace the points and condensers ... set the gap & timing and see if you have spark.

Update, gone thru thr points and conseners, isolated everything but primary ignition coil #2 and condenser #2, since thr wire was broke on it I replaced it, still no spark on #2. So that leaves the primary ignition coil. Im gonna pull it and see wgat I can do to fix it.

To reveiw what I checked. Switched coil wires to check secondarys coils, spark plugs, and plug wires. All are good. Removed points and polished with cloth. reinstalled and gapped points. Checked spark plug gap. The only thing extra i can do is switch the points but i dont think this is it since they look great and are oe bosch.

I think this has been the problem the whole time, the motor would pop and not run right(running on one cyl) and sometimes and would run great not pop and fly(both cyls)

Update, got spark on both cyls! I switched the points and got a no spark on cyl 1 and spark on cyl 2. Removed bad point and cleaned it up some more. The arn was also bent a little. It has more play front to back on the arm than the other point.

Update, put it back together and she runs great......for 10 minutes and now theres no fire and the motor seemed really hot. I am thinking it is running too lean but not to sure. When i got it it wasnt running right the carb mix was set at 2.5 turns out i set it to one turn out when i thought it was a fuel problem and i left it there. When i was driving it ran great, no poping and no backfires. It also smoked. Ill check compression or something to see whats going on. Im ready to buy a geo lol.

Pull the plugs and look at them.
If its running rich it could be fouling the plugs and you would lose spark.
Also make sure the flywheel is tight.
