Cool! Thats good to hear. Maybe you can get some ideas on your mounts from cars/truck engine mounts.. Maybe you can get the insulators off a strut/shock to modifiy? Go see your junk yard friend.

Jim, I had the same issue although my motor has nowhere near that amount of power/torque. I ended up buying a piece of round stock polyurethane and putting it on the lathe to cut out four really small isolators. I believe I ended up making them 1/4" tall with a hole in the center for the bolt. I know a lot of guys just mount the motor directly to the frame without any problem but I wanted a little separation and just couldn't find an isolator that would work for me. The only other thing that comes to mind is that Recreatives Industries does offer some aluminum Max II motor mounts with rubber just on the top of them. You could call Jay and see if he has any.

By the way, I'm glad to see that you got the motor going.

Mcmaster-Carr has a very wide selection of vibration dampers that will do well for you. Here are a few.

Well actually.......I'm over my head in this one....The motor runs, idles very well, but when reved up it misses, and quick throttle changes cause a backfire out the carb. The cam timing still must be off.
To recap, this motor has no adjustments for the lifters(hydraulic), Spark(fixed position coils), or carb(no mixture screws). I did pull the carb apart and clean it, but it was spotless inside to start with(looked like new) So with nothing to adjust, what do I do?

Here is what I did for the additional twisting of the motor mountsIMG_1178.jpgIMG_1181.jpg
The springs are off a s-10 truck door. With the bolt thru it I can adjust the pressure, but I didn't want to crank it down too much and be like a solid mount. It still ended up with more movement than I was comfortable with, so I added this spring to the front side.IMG_1175.jpg

Jim, if you can get the cam timing specs I would check that and make sure that you did not lose something like the emulsion tube when you had the carburator apart. I am still suspicious of the carburator given the black plugs. Keith

After talking to Keith on the phone....we discussed the carb and also the fuel pump. The Kohler has a mechanical pump that sits on the tappet cover and is operated by the lifter movement. When I got the motor it had been overheated and did not run. The color of the spark plugs looked perfect, now they are black. We talked about the carb giving too rich of a mixture. With no adjustments, I can only guess the fuel pump could be pushing too much fuel past the float needle. So, I turned the fuel valve off and tried it....and it seemed to run perfect (maybe 20-30 seconds). I had the blower cover off, so I reinstalled it and tried it again.....motor wouldn't start. I opened up the fuel valve and it started and ran perfect...with the valve open!
I got so disgusted, I walked away.
The only tach I have is a tto TRAIL TECH TTO TACH HOUR METER COMPUTER DIGITAL GUAGE | eBay that is not accurate, but it makes a good hourmeter. If you touch the display, it becomes more accurate. I ran the motor up to 4500rpm on the last try. I think I need to find a real tach.

The whole carb too rich issue turned out to be a float bowl vent tube.....it must be connected to the air cleaner or it creates problems.
The hard starting issue is caused by a low oil pressure switch that wont let it spark till the oil pump builds enough pressure....I think I'll change that over to a dash light.
                    Anyway, it runs good now.
