  • AT 101 or Duro's?

I've narrowed my choices down to either Carlisle AT 101's or Duro mud and sand tires. It's going on a hustler 900 hk with a 16 Ho motor and Whipper made splined axles geared down a hair. Any advice?

What kind of terrain are you mostly going to be riding in? What are you going to be using it for as well? The Carlisle's will be faster in the water. I'm not sure how they stack up against each other in other terrain though.

The duro's don't swim at all! I would go with at101's unless you have a designated swimming machine and designated mudding machine. If that's the case, find a better muddying tire than the duro's, like some vampires or executioners or anything with a better lug than the duro's.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

General all around Alaska use. mud and peat bogs. Trails as well. Not too much swimming but maybe occcasionally. I can't go any bigger than 22 inch tires. Haveing trouble picking something out.

I would go with vampires they come in a 22", but you will have to get 9" wheels. It's worth the money spent to get some good bead lock wheels tho. They should work for occasional swimming and will perform a lot better in the mud and peat bogs.

            Good places to buy?

How can i tell if they are the proper bead lock rims?

And the vampires work okay on the skid steer?

Sorry for all the questions, this is my first 6x6 and it has fairly bald runamucks on it now.

            thanks

Here's the best price I have found on them.
              Interco Vampire ATV Tires
RI sells 9" rims and Matt @ Mudd Ox might have them
Not sure what other options are out there for 9" rims with the correct bolt pattern

The biggest problem with those is that no one wants to ship them to ALaska for under $200. The carlisles i can get on amazone with free shipping. How can you tell if you have bead lock rims or not? I thought the ones i had were bead locks???

If you already have 9" rims I wouldn't worry about if they have a bead lock or not, I was just sayin if ur goin to buy 9" rims ur better off buyin rims with a bead lock. Your stock rims are probably 8" tho I would assume so if u go with the at101's just use ur stock rims.

The beadlocks are actual beads rolled into the rims, some are better than others but as long as there is one that's the key. Trailer rims (except those at recstuff.com) generally do not have a beadlock and are flat.
If your current rims have a indent rolled into them about 3/4" off the faces, you have bead lock rims.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
                    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Almost went with the 101's thru amazon because of the free shipping, but went with the Kenda Bear Claws thru amazon instead and got free shipping. I'm in Alaska. So not much swimming more peat bogs, trails and mud.

Haven't run them yet, should have the argo back together next week and a field test soon.

If you're concerned with tires spinning on the rims, drag racers use Permatex high tack on their rims and tires to prevent the slicks from moving on the rims. Google it for details.

If it's not raining anytime soon, I'll roll the tub out of the shop and take some pics of the tires.

Do the kenda bear claws swim?
They look pretty cool if I can find them in the right size.
                        And they skid steer alright?

Sorry for all the questions it's my first 6x6

I've heard they aren't swimmers. I've got them on an 8x8 argo (skid steer) that is being restored. Should have it up and running next week.

                              HI,
                              Bearclaw tires ###DONOT SWIM ###

                              THE REVIEW
                              Pro's
good to very good forward and reverse traction
The tires were only available in 6 ply good for puncture resistance

                              Negatives
Very Very bad at swimming ,so poor that any or even the slightest current in a river they would not work
Difficult to turn even after more than normal throttle and little more straight line speed prior to turning
Poor ride quality very stiff ride

Tire fitted to a good condition argo 1987 6x6 2-3 psi in ties

The tire u need to use, or similar is an all rounder eg a DURO HF255 v lug chevron etc [same as AT101 Carlisle ]
The Duro HF255 is an agricultural tire in the Duro cataloge

Remember the fitted size ,diameter is what matters .Many 22 inch tires are closer to 21 inch once fitted.
AS a side note I also have 26/12/12 duro hf255 chevron run at 2-3 psi on a swamp fox .The 22 11 8 versions are softer riding ,both are 4 ply

                              The Hf 255 review
                              Pro's
                              Very good universal tires
                              swim ok
                              dirt ok
                              sand ok
                              hard surface ok
                              soft surface ok
turning ability very good [does easily does not load up transmission ]
Better puncture resistance than a stock type tire [4ply Duro hf255 ] [Many OEM tires are 2ply although this trend is decreasing ]

                              Neg
The tire does not specialize in a particular condition
A 6 ply will have more puncture resistance
Remember many tires donot skid steer [high loads on transmission ]

                              tomo:
                              NB
U can always run a chevron v lug either in the swimming direction reverse or the forward direction for more dirt ability .I personally have never compared this .
