What model track are those, they appear to be bolted together with side plates between the grousers ? They look quite good.

Those are the Adair tracks that Tim made with metal links. Mudbug has a set of these on his Argo 6x6 Frontier HD and they probably the best of the Adair series at eating pure mud but they are pretty heavy. I am not sure if Tim is still making tracks with the metal links.

Mudbug says this line of tracks is very stable and he was able to go through rutted areas with out worring about the possibility of throwing a track. They also eat mud very well because almost all of the grouser area is exposed to mud and they clean out very, very well.

great shots of the adairs on a max 2 in action. just like a little tank !! i see the tire size does not make that much difference in performance . i love the way that machine just scoots around. that's the setup i will get when funds allow. meantime i will keep at it with my halftracks. will get a short video taken this weekend. thanks, johnboy va.

Hey John, this is the very machine I was talking about, don't let the tire size fool you, the grousers can be machined taller for increased ground clearance. Smaller tires make for lower gearing you will need to run your Max. A MaxII is so small and light you can lean left of right and get the machine to walk through almost anything. As you can see a MaxII with Adair's is a potent machine.

'noel, thanks buddy , you got me set clear. 20 '' tires seem small, but i guess the difference in them and a 21'' is 0nly a 1/2'''ground clearance. hope to have a short video soon of my testing my modified homebuilt half tracks. ruth took a video on her phone, but it won't download. will try the camera in a few days. keep you posted. johnboy va.

If you have the 5" extensions you are in good shape, you will have to do some tub heating, but only above the tires.

I used the heat gun on high, picked a warm day, and had the machine in the sun, heated it up for about 5-10 minutes above each wheel, and then used a 1"x8" board to start, then as I got more clearance, went with a 2"x4" eventually. You will have to repeat the process to get the desired clearance. Don't stop when you have just enough as the body will sag eventually, I'd say stop when you have about 2" clearance above the tires. The process will need to be repeated about once a year to maintain the clearance.

I think that your theory of using 20" tires is very valid, there's not much that the extra inch gains you in clearance, and you could probably cut your heat gun usage as well.

noel, thanks for the input. 2 questions. i bought the 5'' exstensions from richards relics. if i had 21'' tires would i still need to modify the body ? also, when using a heat gun to make mods, do you use the high setting and how long does it usually take to get the tub soft enough to reshape ? after it's soft just push on it with a short 2x4 or such ? appreciate your input !! johnboy va. p.s instead of buying new rims i could still use my exstensions with 20 '' tires if need be.

My green Max2 has the factory track set up with the extensions, I removed the worthless rubber tracks and put the Adair tracks on it. Without some extensions (I think 3" would work) you will have to utilize the 20" tires with the offset wheels.

My Tan Max2 works with Adair tracks and 1" extensions, but I have done a lot of body sculpturing with a heat gun.

Either way should work fine, and I've always said that there is no better all around machine than a Max2. For a few thousand dollars you could have a nearly unstoppable machine if you don't mind getting your hands dirty.

noel says he has the adair tracks on his max 2 with 21'' rawhides and stock rims. are you using the wheel exstensions ? i was told by adair i needed the 20'' tires with the offset rims for the max 2 tracks. thanks, johnboy va.

I have a set of Adair tracks on my green Max2. This machine is nearly unstoppable, the tracks are mounted on 21" Rawhide tires on Stock R.I. wheels. This machine has a Kohler 20hp that I put a cold air kit in, and it also has 13 tooth output sprockets on the t20 for low gearing, split shifter, bilge pump, Richard's Relics chain adjusters (roller style) winch, aftermarket driving lights, etc., The tracks however really make this machine. I have yet to bog it down, and its got great ground clearance which is almost is good as my Argo Frontier with Adair tracks. This machine had the factory track package with the additional spacing and bearing kit. I have seen the package that Adair sells and the 20" offset aluminum wheels makes for an excellent package and you would not regret getting this set-up as it will make a mild Max2 into a very effective mud bogging monster that few machines can keep up with.

Listen to Noel, he has a lot of experience with the MaxII and Adair tracks, as for other brands and the MaxII I wouldn't waste my time and money because you will be very disappointed. Noel has posted some video of his older brown MaxII with Adair tracks and that machine was just unbelievable. I not sure there is another machine that can out preform a MaxII with a big engine and a set of Adair tracks-they are just simply awesome in the mud.

Well, they are hard to beat. I live in northern Ny. I plow all winter.
I don't take them off, except for maintaining the machine.

Which type of track is the adair? Are those the all plastic tracks that Richard relics sell? If so I have a set on one of my max II. Only have used them so far in snow. It's spring now and I'm skeptical on using them Cuz worried of wearing them out on gravel

Richards tracks are not the same as the Adair track.
