  • Argo Carlisle Tires 25x12-9 on a Max II

Has anyone tried the Argo tires on a Max II. Looking for a 24" or 25" tire that will fit the Max II since I can't find any 25x12-9 Rawhide III's. Mud and water performance of the Argo's?

The 25" tires will not fit because they hit each other: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/max-a...es-max-ii.html

The 24" tires can fit. Use the search and check out some of the existing threads on the site regarding putting the 24" Argo tires on a Max II. They will have more information for you than anyone can write here. Here is one to get you started: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/tire-...es-max-ii.html

Mike, thanks. I have done extensive searches on the subject and read all the posts. I wanted to put 25x12-9 vampires on the Max II but was told they are too tall. Same issue regarding the 25x12-9 Argo's. I'm looking for the tallest tire for the Max II that is good in water and mud. Based on everything I have read, it looks like the only option is the 25x12-9 rawhide III which I believe you have on your Max II. Do you agree this is the only option? Any idea where I can buy a set?

I really haven't paid much attention to tires that will fit a Max II in the past couple of years so I may not be the best person to respond. The 25x12-9 rawhide III's will fit. I have no idea where to find a set. The 24" Frontier tires will fit as well. They will be better in the water. Some members have had sidewall problems from them years ago but I haven't read anything lately. 25" mudbugs will fit as well as 25" gators. Noel was running those on his Max II. The 25x11 Goodyear ATTs or was it ASTs? will fit. I'm sure there are more but when your requirement is that they have to also be good in the water, that does limit your choices. The vampires would not have been good in the water even if they would have fit.

I think for a tire that is still good in the water, you have to stick with the 24" Frontier tires or the 25" rawhide III's.

Hello, I just sold my max 2 but a couple months ago I tried a set of 24"Argos and they worked very well, that would be my choice because I love swimming fast... Norm

If I may jump on this post. I am looking for a Wide Flat tall tire for a max II for the snow. I realy like the Vendettas but need them in an 8" rim configuration.
That style tread will CUP the snow and ride on top. The close's thing I have seen to them is the Argo Frontier tires. When it comes to snow a very agressive digger can sink you !

I would agree with Norm, I would buy the smallest set of 24" Argo tires I could find, they are blazing fast in the water on a MaxII. They are excellent in swamp and watery mud and a MaxII is so light that when you get into real mud conditions you simply rock the machine, hit the gas gas, spin the tires and work your way through bad mud. The trick with these tires and a light machine is to keep them spinning. They will move under the worst conditions if you spin tires and rock the machine.

I ran a set of 24" Frontier tires on my green Max2 before upgrading to Adair tracks. They fit the machine without mods, swam fast as all get out, and mudded very well, additionally, they had a good ride.

I still run a set of 25" Mud Bug tires on my tan Max2. They are the best overall tires I have run on any amphibious machine. It did require fender well modifications. The Gators are a clone of the Mud Bug tires with slightly less tread height.

The non ASX Vampire tires in 22" do well too. They require no mods to the body, swim pretty well, and mud great, but they do have a tendency to dig down and stick you quickly.

I believe that I have seen just about every tire combination on every type of machine under some of the worse conditions possible. I believe that Noels Tan MaxII with the 25" MudBug tires is the best over all combination I have seen on any machine with tires.

Noel had good ground clearance, good ride quality, I would guess the swim speed at almost 2 MPH. His MaxII is the only machine with tires that I have ever seen that could follow my ARGO Frontier with Adair tracks. Yes he did have to rock and work the machine but he always made it through.

I have noted many times that under pure mud conditions Lee's mud Bug equipped Frontier would out perform my ASX equipped MaxIV because the bugs seem to clean out in pure mud better then other mud tires. I will also note that the Bugs don't swim well on the Frontier or MaxIV: but because of the light weight and high floatation they swim very well on the MaxII.

I searched through my pics and must have deleted the photos. From memory I can tell you the 24" Argo tires fit both my green and tan Max2 with plenty of room to spare above and between the tires. These tires vary a good amount in size and at 4 psi really stand an average of 23" in height. They should fit any Max2 even with some body sag.

Argo wheels. Mine have the extra hole from the factory used to insert the grease gun extension. I always thought that was a great idea from Argo. Crafty Canadians.

Thanks for the info on that I keep on seeing some people say that they rub the body so I don't know what the hell to do and I don't know any one around PITTSBURGH that has 24 inch argo tires that I could try before I go for it

I am pritty sure the Argo 9" wheel has a deeper inner offset. A stock Max II wheel has an 4" inner offset. This will efect tire rub for sure !
