  • bead lock wheels

ok I have beat the dayligh5s out of my tyre/wheel combo doing donuts and turns 1 - 1 1/2 lbs air and never had bead pop.

now with desire to run tracks I am searching for another set of wheels. this time I may cut bead lock rings like off road trucks use to bolt the sidewall to rim. this will allow me to use tubes safely.

are bead loco wheels made or does one have tk make them? Is there a pattern for the two plates?

They are made but I think they are all aluminum and pretty pricey. WFO is the first member who comes to mind that is running them: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/max-a...html#post66079

My question would be why do you need them? I would think a standard set of Mudd-Ox beadlock wheels would work fine?

I have 20x11x8 run a muks with bad beads. going to run tubes...apparently tubes not good when tyres turn on wheel...thus bolt on bead locks or sheet metal screws into beads to stop the tyres spinning

Also shipp8ng wheels from US to me is prohibatively $$$pendy

small circles of steel to weld onto rims..likely cheaper to ship

You can tweak the dimensions for your particular wheel. I usually make the inner ring that welds to the rim without the reliefs.

Am I right in thinking that the tire is captured between the outside of the rim and the ring, rather than the tire being in the inside of the rim as is usually the case?

Yes not so good with tubeless LOL but best method to keep tyres on a rim and not pop beads for sure.

Four wheel trucks use these lots, and racers but for us it's not common I don't think. I just don't want to mess with tyres and tubes and tearing off stems so this stops that 100% BOTTOM LINE that keeps things rolling along. I won't run them on inner bead just outer bead to keep from spinning on wheel.

Then I can run cheap ass tyres like I have and they will work on tracks or anywhere actually.

Ifn I get this happening I'll post pics...of course.

I have had the lock rings made and after I weld them on I smear a layer of JB Weld on it and let it set over night. I have never had one not hold air afterwards. I am having some made as I write this. I am just waiting on a quote. If you tell me how many you are looking for I can add them and see if we can get a better price. I don't charge extra, just what they cost to have made.

Any pictures of your wheels and I assume the work is done local to you?

I would require enough for six wheels altogether.

I will have to brave it in the garage to get a pic, but yes I have a machine shop make them for me. They do very good work. JoeH has a set on his racer. For a complete set you will need 12 rings.

Here is a pic of the rings on one of my wheels.

I can get them made like that too. I just need to know how many for the quote.

I think I remember Joe H saying that they were in the neighborhood of $35-45 per wheel (one inner and one outer ring), which he had made up for his racer #1130. I would be interested in a set with the reliefs for six wheels if you get a decent bulk price. That'd save me from haggling with the local hydro-fab place. Keep us updated on what you find out Smud, and thanks for the effort.
