With the frontier level i would say it's about the same. Perhaps a little faster on the kendas.

Remember i'm also 40lbs heavier than before with the new engine + the weight in back to level out my frontier.

Well. I would have preferred a more of a side angle view.

I would have to say maybe a little faster for the kendas. But don't quote me on that, the video is a little fuzzy. He looks like he hit bottom a couple times between floatings.

Also that's a hustler. They generally go better (smoother) in water than an argo.

I will watch the video a few times.

This is a video of boncrshr driving his hustler 950 across the Sabine river. He has 13 x10 x9, Vampire TSL tires, that are mounted on Matt,s 9 inch, bead lock rims. Would you say that the Kenda Executioner tires swim faster than this, or about the same?

Ideas about the perfect amphib tire. hmm ? I guess that question will vary a lot by each forum member, based on the kind of riding that they do. MightymaxIV, Ga Mudbug , Mike, the forum administrator , jpswift , Don, and myself, all think that the Interco , ASX tire is pretty darn close. At 2 psi the ASX measure just short of 14 inches wide. The wider tire or track that you use, the lower psi thats exerted on the ground. The ASX rides better than a Gator or Mud bug atv tire. The extra width of this tire at really low air pressure, and the aggressive side lug design , really helps when climbing out of rutts dug by agressive tire atv,s.

I have used the normal (TSL) vampires on several atvs and they have very good water displacement, much better than the kendas. However they wear down quickly on every other terrain but water. The vampires are also $$$$$

I use my frontier to plow the yard in winter. I run the executioners at about 4.5psi to get as much tread surface to contact the ice. When i do spin out it does vibrate quite a bit. You can't have too much loose in freezing cold temperatures.

I prefer the interco swamplites or reptiles over the kenda executioners for winter use.

It's true about the pressure.

I run mine at 4-6psi (sometimes more) when in rough terain.

The more pressure the rougher the ride.

Lower pressure equals less clearing of debris.

I bought a couple spring seats that are like a boat seats with comfort springs in them.

They simply sit on top of the argo seat much like a seat cousion . Saved my aching back.

There's still three feet of snow and ice here. Can you say cabin fever? or is it AATV envy?

When I wrote a post on route6x6 about putting six Gator atv tires on my Max IV, the forum members there told me that the Gator tires would ride really rough, because they are six ply tires. Well , after reading postings like this, and experiencing how hard the ride was with the Good year, terra tires on my Max IV, I decided to run my Gator tires at zero psi. To me, at this air pressure, the Gator tires rode just about the same as my Good year ,terra tires. No better ,and surely no worse. I now ride with them at 3 psi. When ever I see a pot hole or rutt on the trail, I roll into it, and then slowly roll out of it. My back feels much better when I ride this way. I,m very sure I,ll be putting some Kenda Executioners on my Hustler, Big foot this summer. Cobalt,s experience with them convinced me that they swim. Thats all I needed to know.

Your findings with 26" Kenda Executioners really have me pondering a set as I'm after 26s as well. The notion of still being able to swim decent while having the added traction to actually get out of the water sounds really good. Seems like trying to climb out of water holes is when my Terras fall short sometimes. I can't remember if your post said anything about ride quality with the Executioners. Any thoughts on their ride?

The executioners are not the roughest ride but they are not an entirely smooth ride either.

Any tire that has decent mud/water clearing ability will have larger spaces between the lugs. This causes ups and downs and you get vibration on hard pack.

The executioners are a little rougher than itp 589's, rougher than interco swamplites, or reptiles.

On stumps/trees/logs/rocks the executioners are smooth compared to the original argo tires that tend to slip grind over hard obstacles.

On a regular atv (4 wheels) the vibration of the executioners is a bit more noticeable due the the suspension system. The springs amplify the vibration.

One of my favourite atv tires is the still the Lumber Jack. Talk about long lasting.

Both tires you mentioned above look very much like terra-jet tires.

While these work very well on a terra-jet (four wheel amphibious vehicle) They will not work all that well on a 6x6 or 8x8.

I know, i tried many matchings between machine types over the years.

I did try matching four frontier tires and two itp 589s (589's in the middle) on one of my older 1980s argo 6x6.

The idea was to fix a design flaw in most aatvs of getting high centered, centered being the operative word.

The 589's are very aggressive and will grip muck much better.

Trial produced quite favourable results. I got the mudding ability of a terra-jet and the floatation of an argo.

What it boils down to is what you intend to do with the machine. I don't care for the original argo tires as they wear out far to quickly for the environment i run them in.

Other than that i would recommend getting a set of J-wheelz for your machine.

I know that several have requested a sticky posting specifically for aatv tested tires results.

Which i believe would be a good idea.

If your asking my opinion as to which is the better or the two. If you spend a-lot of time on water and trails that have few sticky mud holes then the original argo with the added 25% would get you there faster or perhaps 2 hours earlier to the camp (example based on 8 hour scale).

If you literally take the "all terain" part of AATV seriously then the Executioners are much better.






Since there are so many different lug patterns made for atv tires, the shape of the lug has a lot to do with its intended purpose and the ability to shed mud. A curved lug on the outer edge of an atv tire will also determine its swimming ability. An example of this is the Interco ASX , atv tire that swims reasonably well. The Kenda Executioner is more of a pure mud tire , with a slight curved outer lug, that just happens to swim better than most atv mud tires on the market.
