  • easy wheel painting

I was needing to paint the wheels for my racer and didn't want to go to the trouble of dismounting the tires. i was going to break one bead then mask the tire with tape and newspaper, but found an easier way to do it. with the bead broken, i stretched the neck hole of a T-shirt over the rim, then turning the shirt inside out as i worked, stretched the body of the shirt over the tire. stuff any excess down between the wheel and tire and paint away. this worked well on 8" rims, for 12's you might have to cut the neck hole out a bit bigger. the shirt i used was an XL, but i might go buy a few 4XL's just to keep around for this task. (for some reason pictures loaded out of order, but you can get the idea )

Great tip. I have always masked mine with tape and newspaper but this would be much quicker. I guess you just have to be sure that the paint won't bleed through the T-shirt that you are using before you start.

Too much work. Just smear vaseline or grease or fish slime on the tire. Paint carefully, any paint on the tire will wash off the next day.
        Gravy might work too.

If you have an old innertube for that tire, it's even easier. Either tuck it under the rim after you break your bead, or inflate it enough to seal around the edge of the rim. I do the tape thing cause I'm too lazy to break beads.
It's all just nuts and bolts.

I would think that T shirt is a little un-comfortable to wear after that, but great tip!
