unless you have HUGE hands i would get two more snap rings BIGGER than the biggest one there. NICE SHOES DUDE!!!!! I would think that it will be between a 1 and 1/8 and 1 and 1/2????

To MAKE SURE the snap ring "seats" and wont pop out, spin the snap ring around once....

I dont know if you can open the snap ring big enough to fit over the shaft??? That may not work, it could deform the snap ring.... and now i see you have to pre tension the spring by winding it up.... i think you had better pull the clutch.... but try it if you want. If you dont pre tenstion the spring it will shift out too soon and fee WAY under powered.

I had a brain F*rt how about a "how to video"... just MAKE SURE you dont bend the the cluch surfaces NO PRYING ON THEM!!!! and dont ding them NO HAMMER EXCEPT FOR A DEAD BLOW RUBBER HAMMER.... and DO NOT hit the area where the belt runs!

THANKS RD!!!!!! <<<< His video is better than the other one, he puts his hand over the snap ring (to keep from loosing it if it comes off the plires)

Nice! Thanks for the video. I was wondering the same about the snap rings. Seems like they would bend out of shape if I opened one big enough to fit over the shaft. So I assume I'll just have to remove it completely?

The first thing you did, remove that snap ring, is that the failed part in question on my machine?

Can't say enough about your help. I love learning this stuff and I'm lucky to be able to reach out like this! I'm packing up my desk now and should have a wrench in my hand in about an hour. I will report back!

ps: I sell cars in my real life, I got all sorts of slick shoes.

Yes sir, the failed part is either the snap ring, which is fixable, or it is the machined recess where the snap ring goes, which is not fixable (except by a machine shop)

you HAVE TO HAVE THE OTHER TWO SHOES FOR THE ARGO!! It will tear itself apart with just one. Either find the two that are missing (THEY HAVE TO BE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE ARGO.... You could empty out the wifes vacume and try vacuming the bottom of the argo... or use a shop vac.) or pull the the one you still have and take it to the Polaris/artic cat / yamaha shops and see if they can get somethign to work off of an ATV or snow mobile...

So i guess you will have to pull the clutch! Get a coffe can, or plastic cup and put ALL THE PARTS YOU PULL in it!

make sure you take home a can of PB blaster

unscrew the one bolt on the end of the shaft all the way out , spray some PB blaster at the end of the shaft (where you just took the bolt out of) and try pullikng the cluch off.

My guess is it isnt that easy! So, get a chunk of wood, maybe 1 or two inches wide, and 10 to 24 inches long. Put the piece of wood agains the base of the cluch (betwene the area where the shoes go, almost on top of the spring) and give the wood a few good smacks with the hammer. Rotate the clutch to the next area between where the shoes would go and smack it again a couple of times. Repeat smacking and rotating, and spraying PB blaster. This is where you have to be patienct, and not get mad and hit it so hard it breaks.

I believe it did start tearing itself apart! I think without those shoes it was jacking itself up, causing the snap ring to fail and warping the spring.

            Two shims I guess.

            No snap ring, confirmed.

Where the clutch was pressed against the brake pad I guess it filed it some?

            The spring looks warped up.

Missing those 2 shoes. I searched for a little while and didn't see them. I suppose they have to be in the tub?!

I didn't have giant hands after all, def gonna need a larger ring.

This may be machined, but the piece in between the clutch and the shaft has a notch in it.

I couldn't get this sucker off... I can't get the damn bolt out... I assume the thing needs to be held still? I didn't try to keep twisting and winding it up. I tried with some rachet straps to hold it but no-go... I think I need some wood wedges to rachet as clamps on it or something? Still working on this.

So I guess I am going to call around tomorrow and see if anyone has a spring in stock. Hopefully so, if not I might just be fishing at Busco! I'll pick up the ring from NAPA and I'm about to go searching for the missing shoes.

Spook you've been a major help! Big ups!

A side note: Got the ROPS painted but it has taken a back seat to this other bull ish!

GG,hard to see but in the pic below the spring of the helix on the sheave,it appears that one of the "posts" from the cam shoe is still in the hole (the white plastic). Either from being sheared off or just plain rubbed down to nothing. My hunch, you wont be finding those in the bottom of the mach, they probably wore down to nothing and that's when the other issues began. As for the notch in the bronze bushing (#34) it is to accept # 35 (roll pin) to hold it captive in the bore.I would put one back in.The spring looks sprung,I would replace that item also.Primary clutch,I believe is retained with a S.H.C.S. so you need a hex key to remove it.Try impact as opposed to steady force in opposite directions, sometimes this is the way to crack the bolt loose.

O,from an earlier post,Spookum, hello to you also.

              Joe.

                Thanks Joe!

Hey I was watching Spooks clutch vid and RD's clutch vid and I am hung. How much do I rotate the clutch when I put her back together? Both of you spin the thing counter-clockwise before putting in the snap ring. How much? Just enough to get the ring on there? Half turn? Just needing some clarification!

Also, had some fellow Busco riders step up and help. I'm going to an ATV shop here in a few minutes to see if I can find those shoes, if not there will be a few parts clutches available to me at Busco.

I love 6x6world! And it's really the members that make it!

                Thank yall!

Sorry to let you down buddy, i have never had one of those clutchs apart. I bet you have to spin it, and then keep spining it to get the spring in the correct hole? That is my best guess. I hope RD chimes in here, or your can call your friendly argo dealer!!! it is what their there for!!! (make sure to report back) You got my digets, give me a ring if you have too. I wont be offended HI JOE!!!! long time no hear!
