don't panic yet my friend these t 20 are tough. 99% chance that you've got some unhooked linkage or the pin in your diamond shifter.. Look it over real careful. See what moves when you pull the laterals back one at a time. There are guys on this site who can help you better than me if you can tell them what is or is not moving when you move the laterals. Good Luck

yes thank you the linkages where my first thinking took the top off and everything seems to be ok out side seems to be internal the rods are still intact for shifting forward and reverse the 4 plunger things are going in and out when the levers are pulled something just didnt feel right when i got it and i was going to rebuild the tranny as a safty thing so nothing big broke all my friends told me i just like to take things apparts lol i guess i should have taken it apart this time lol i traded my 2006 polaris for it maybe i made a bad deal but i really like it when its running

If it is something internal it should only affect one side. Do both sides seem to have the problem? Can you still shift from forward to reverse?

The good news is that if it is something internal they are simple to work on. Plus you can get parts the cheapest new directly from the manufacturer at Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511 Or you could post here on the board in the wanted section. There are quite a few guys on here that have parts for them. The bands and drums are the most expensive parts but usually you only need one of each. While you're in there you might as well pick up a seal kit. I think it is only ~$50 from Recreative Industries.

Finally, be sure you check out the T20 rebuild how-to here on the site for a step-by-step if you get stuck.

yes the step by step section is great i have to thank the man who wrote it and postedf it i planned on using it when i took it apart i can go in to forward gear and it will drive forward it seems to shift in to reverse you cant push the machine as if it was in nutral im going to play more with it in the morning hoping its something simple that im just over looking i have been reading the tranny section but must be over looking to ajust the plunger things what way do you go am i wanting to screw it into pull plunger out more or screw it out to push plunger in more. am i looking at 2 different problems one with reverse going out and the other on steering or will one effect the other i know its hard telling someone whats wrong with out looking at it your self im just looking for ideas to get me in the right direction i tend to over complicate things

If you screw into the plungers that will tighten your bands on a max 2 you should generally have 2 to 4 inches of stick travel.

As for the reverse sounds like you either broke the shift collar in side t20s are noted for this or the shift dog the thing with the diamond plate may have a worn shift pin you can pull this out pretty easy the shift colllar is internal hope this helps

                Mirrocraft.
Did you know that when you shift into reverse, you won't have reverse unless you pull both sticks all the way back? The sticks work opposite in reverse. There may be nothing wrong with it.

yes i know you have to pull the levers back to go back i will check the pins in the morning i hope its that easy im thinking its a band because i screwed the bolts all the way in on both top things and still nothing no reverse nore any steering i can shift in to forward just not reverse steering is in and outand really hard lol this is not a good machine to break down in the woods with im glad both times ive broke down in the woods its limped its self out

Believe me, I feel your pain. I lost the right side while I was in the swamp, had to drive the left side while using a pole to keep the right side moving (Funny now, not then.) I opened up my tranny today for the first time, and I will say it's DEFINITELY a well built tranny. Mine was the shifter pin, just gotta get out all the metal shavings.
Anyway, the band that gives you reverse also give tranny braking (Steering) in forward, and vise versa. So since you have forward, and the tranny brake engages when in reverse, it sounds like the reverse bands; either need adjustment or needs new bands? I doubt it's your shifter since it sounds like it is shifting for you, just not grabbing the reverse drum. Kinda supprising that it would be all of a sudden though, and on both sides? Well, you'll know when you open it up. If it is bands, their $70.00 each at Richard's relics, Welcome to Richard's Relics Parts for ATV's And from what I understand, he puts thicker friction pads than used stock by B/W, so they should last a LOOONG time.

actually I have a ? did you ram the shifter into reverse the best way to shift the borg warner is to pull your sticks about half way back then move the shifter if it does not slip into gear rock the machine a little bit with your body weight in the seat. That goes for any direction neutral to forward or to Reverse.
