  • T-Hawk 16 hp Tec. Clutch issue. HELP!

I just aquired a Attex 450 Tomahawk with the OHV 16 hp Tec. The clutches are not sliding more than one third of the way out at full throttle in neutral. I'm going to assume something is worn out or broken in the drive clutch. What size bolt does it take to pull it?
I've never saw a drive clutch on a engine with the dome turned inward. Is this normal? Looks as if it has to be this way to line up correctly with the driven.

Congratulations on your newest purchase, again! Sounds like you got the bug.

The clutch is normally backwards. I have seen the drivens get rusty corroded from sitting and don't slide right. Try to see if you could clean it up some and them lube it down and hopefully that will work. Most drive clutches I have dealt with are serviceable. I have gotten them not working and torn down to see there not together right. So may be worth a gander. Good luck with it and that is a nice machine. Id love to own one.

I'll take it off and tear it down for an inspection.

As it turns out there was one of the rollers missing on one arm. The others have a fair amount of slop so I'm in the market for a new drive clutch and will post this in the wanted section.

You can get a clutch kit for about $70,Salsbury stopped making clutches so you will have to rebuild your old one or get a new comet clutch.

Any suggestions as the best place to get one?

I'm playing the old game of "stealing from Paul to pay Jim" as I robbed the one off the Muscateer so I could continue to run the Attex.

Thanks for the info. I'm favoring the purchase of a new one as this one has quite a lot of wear. While I'm at it I may just do an engine swap and save this 16 HP Tec. as a spare for the Muscateer.
