I finally got my "New" Hustler unloaded from my truck, and playing with the T20, I see it has the dreaded gear lube in it, but looks clean. LOL if you look at the pics of the chains, it appears someone was quite liberal with the lube.
Anyway, chains are still hooked up, but neither the steering levers or shifters are hooked up. Problem is, the shifting diamonds don't seem to do anything, no detent between F-N-R. Does this seem like it might be a problem?

how to tell if the Transmission good

4 ounces should have been enough. That may be as good as it gets. When you are going down a hill that is when the bands will be placed under more load and if you are going slow and slowly pulling the sticks back that is probably when it does it the most. That's just a normal part of the transmission. Just drive it and don't worry about the sound. That's normal.

I'd hope so. I don't know why My adjuster broke, Zipping around the yard, gassed it and POW! It was the Carriage bolt that goes thru the frame and has the tensioning nuts on it. Don brought up a good point though, about the detent springs inside the tranny on each shift drum. If you can pull it apart I'd check it. Something had to cause the pin to wear or they would have never shoved a roll pin in there. If that spring is missing, you'll wear your pin quicker. Come to think of it, now I think I should also do so on my Wolf's tranny,

I pulled a pin out and put in back in backward once on buckhntr17 max. Worked good and was free. But is was only slightly worn to begin with. Other one on crazycolts222 was so worn out that the pin wore all the way. I couldnt get it out. This seems like must be a common problem on the t-20. If you catch it early enough to be able to grab something to pull out its an easy and cheap fix. We took the O ring off and heated the shifter a little. That helped a lot.
This may be a Don question but one tranny I saw the hole the shifter goes in was all worn out. So when you shifted it it would bind in the hole. Anybody else see that happen. My guess is something internal is creating a bind. Over time the aluminum wore out.

hey John. i had a similar problem at busco last time. my idler gear walked on the shaft and the chain nearly wore through the adjuster cradle. luckily Don had a spare in the truck. . as for the shift pin, luckily i was on my property. walked to the shop, got the tools and pulled it apart. put it in gear with a screwdriver and got her to the shop. then i called Rec and ordered a pair of pins. i'll pull the right one out tonight and see if it has the same cob job done to it. i'm broke, but 2 pins was 5 bucks and 6 for shipping. i think i can probably spare$11 to have the wolf back up and running

Sorry to hear that Race, Wolfs having a bad few days. I was running yesterday evening, trying out my new camera (OK, bought it a year ago but just trying it out now, I haven't gotten anything new in the past 8 months) and POP, lost right side. Thought it was the chain, but it was the Rear Adjuster! (4 chain setup) so that was it, it bound all up, too dark to see what the heck I was doing, and I had to drag the dern thing back into the shed by hand, right center and rear tires lockedOriginally posted by racerone3 View Postusing the wild wolf today, went to back up and got nothing on the left side. tried forward... nothing.
Luckily all I need is a carriage bolt. And Race, I've seen dowel pins in hardware stores, maybe you can get a correct size (Screw extractor should get that roll pin) for a buck or two and get going quick. I do know R.I. sells hardened pins pretty cheap too as I've already broken a pin in the wolf (Old T-style Pin)

I think in a lot of cases (probably not yours, R13) the reason the pins wear out is because of bad adjustment on the linkage or because of linkage or shift drums that don't work freely. The detent springs on the transmission spools are what should hold each side in gear (or neutral) and the linkage and spool should be free enough and adjusted so that they don't hold any pressure one way or the other onto the spools. The pins in the shift drums are soft and will wear out quickly if they're held against the hardened spool as it spins. Just my two cents.

should have kept my big mouth shut! using the wild wolf today, went to back up and got nothing on the left side. tried forward... nothing. pulled the diamond shifter and the "pin" is toast. looks like someone replaced it at some point with a roll pin
of course the only spare i have is a right side. i was able to move the selector into forward with a screwdriver and limp it back to the shop at least

You are right, that is a normal sound. There are lots of posts on the additive and fluid changes on the site if you use the search. Here is one to get you started: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/trans...ans-fluid.html
