  • T-20 assembly issue

I'm reassembling a T-20 with many new parts. The issue I'm having is with the left side main shaft with the sprocket on it. The new bearing is all the way in the case flush, the shaft is all the way mated flush on the bearing. The problem I'm having is there isn't enough of the snap ring groove exposed on the inside of the case to allow the snap ring to clip into place.

The only thing I can think of is when RI had this bearing ground down that it ended up a .1 too thick. Any ideas or suggestions?

Pop it back out and check to make sure there is nothing behind it holding the bearing out too far. sometimes when you press them in they will scrape a little bit of aluminum from the case and keep the bearing from seating all the way.

If this was on the Hustler I just picked up, the bearing would have been JB-welded in the case.

Sorry. That wasn't much of a help. Listen to the guy above me.

        Brian,

Thanks for the tip, I took the bearing out and re seated it. it looks like that did the trick but I wont know for a while as I ran out of time today. Anyone know where to by the T-20 outer seals from a chain distributor?

Mike Ahhh the old JB weld trick, when in doubt goop more...

The input shaft seal is SKF #9878 and the output seals are #17184. Motion sells them fairly cheap. any bearing house should be able to get them, or match the # to another brand

Let us know how it turns out, Mike. I had an issue like that once, and it was because there was a little imperfection on the shaft and the inner bearing race wasn't all the way down, kind of like what Brian said.

So what's the T-20 for? Are you cookin up a new project?

                Jeff,

No unfortunately I'm just reconditioning my T-20 on my Max IV, I have new sprockets, relined bands, new bearings. With Don's help I've also converted it to the old style tung depressor linkage. I've been pretty busy this last month but I do have a project just about done just need more time....
