  • Shim primary clutch

Put new engine in my 1979 Argo its a 21 hp Kohler, my problem is the only spot I was able to get it to fit my clutches do not line up. Is it possible to shim my primary clutch, and if so how much can I get away with out causing damage?

I'm assuming you need to space it out away from the motor? How much do you need to move it? A custom key could be made to move it a little, but I wouldnt move it much.
Can you redrill the motor mount holes? How about the trans?

I need to move it about 1/4 inch. I have tryed several times to redril the moter mount holes I am afraid if I drill out any more metal it will be to weak to suport the new heavier motor

Moving it 1/4" should be Ok. The clutch slides in on the shaft untill the key hits the ramp in the keyway. A machine shop could make you a custom shaped key that would ramp sooner. Or if you were good with a welder and grinder.....
Just make sure you have lots of crankshaft to support the clutch. I'm guessing you will have at least 2"?
