  • Argo Conquest clutch springs

Are there different clutch springs for these clutches that make a dirrerence or
is the standard springs the best? I see references to "RED", "BLUE", etc.

How about difference weights, looking for more low end from kawi 20hp. Am going to move spring to hole #2, but if other changes make a difference might as well do it all while its apart.

    Thanks from a new owner.

As far as I know, there are only 2 different weights and 1 Primary spring available from ODG. I suppose you could check with the manufacturer though.
I like the stock primary spring with a single shim under it( same thickness as spring material, or a little less to avoid coil binding the spring). Combine that with tightening the secondary, and you will see a difference.
Another option to adding shim is to lighten the stock weights a bit.

What gearing do you have in your trans?

      Thanks RD

I figured you would be the one to know. I plan on doing your suggested mods to the clutchs, probably going to the 2nd hole.

I haven't checked the ratio yet but probably the high gear one based on the way it performs. Wish it was the lower one.

        RD,

How can you tell what gear the tranny is????
Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

There is a series of numbers on the top of the trans. If I remember correctly, if the # incorporates an H it's high, M is medium, and U is for low gearing.

I think G is the low gear identifier. Like HU-MU-GU.

What do you mean "low end"? As in staying in a lower gear? Adjust the drive pulley to move power and adjust the driven to move gearing.

I have been looking at this very subject a bit lately. I have been in contact with CVTech IBC R&D and they tell me that this is an old version of the powerbloc 5 and that they no longer make the full set of tuning springs for this clutch. They do offer other springs and have made suggestions of springs that would probably work. (I don't have $30 per plus shipping to find out) I think I've seen 3 different flyweight masses offered but if you start with the 260g you can carefully drill out the back and have any mass you want. (down to a reasonable value)

If the engagement RPM and the running RPM seem fine and you want lower gearing then tighten the driven spring.

My 89 argo has HA on the transmission and the 02 conquest has MU. Which is the better transmission....one that is geared high, medium or low?

Does anyone know the top speeds for the high, med and low transmissions? I may want to switch mine.

NO, these are a High, Low range with Reverse. Reverse uses the Low range gearing. NOT shift on the fly.

My Low geared Trans top speed is about 22kmh.
Not sure what the Med geared top speed is, as I have mine clutched down, and am running tracks on it right now. With Tracks off and stock clutching setup, I might get 27-30kmh. Don't quote me on that though, I've never actually run it that way.
I've never GPS'ed the Top Speed of a High Geared Trany, but it seems to me that a High Geared Tranny in LOW RANGE is faster than my Low Geared Tranny in HIGH range.

Not much help here, but thought I'd try.

Rock Doctor, just to add to my original question some additional information. My trans is the MU one (I guess the middle geared trans?).

I ordered a new driven clutch spring (the blue one). Do you suggest I use the #1 hole or #2? Right now take off is slow and a turn will
almost ( and sometimes does) stop the Argo.

                          RD,

My MU geared tranny in high gear will top out at 30 kms hour. This is what I clocked with my GPS.
Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

i went down to the local snow mobile scrap yard and found a powerblock primary spring that was same size but had alittle more spring rate it brought my clutch engage rpm up and slowed down the belt shift also moved the stock driven clutch ( stock) spring to number 1 works awsome im using 225g weights still thinking of messing with those

                            im running a 99 conquest 20hp kaw 900 hrs
if you think you cant just try it any way you wont know till ya do
