Borg Warner specs had them rated for 25 hp, but A LOT of people are throwing A LOT more hp at them with no issues. I have 3 machines in the 40hp range and have never had a problem. I know of several people throwing 50-60 at them

Race is using a decommissioned bandelaro engine that had been hopped up even more. The engines are based on the briggs vanguards. 23 HP in a max II will make it go for sure, but like you said a little more power is a good thing.

[IMG][/IMG]If you plan to abuse it, they can be broken with a small HP engine. I snapped an input shaft on mine with a 16hp briggs v-twin.....but I did abuse it. I was trying to pull the wussy bridge into place, and it was stuck. So I rev-ed the engine and banged the sticks forward....Snap!
I am putting a 40 hp kohler in my bigfoot project. Others have put 60 hp 3cyl car motors in thiers. How big did you want to go?

Kohler Engines: CH1000: Command PRO: Product Detail: Engines

132lbs for the kohler. As for adiars on sand, I am not sure I have seen any video's or heard any reviews of them on dunes. There always has to be a first person to try it, will it be you?

Somehow when I uploaded the wussy bridge pictures, the thumbnails didn't come thru.....click on it, it will show up.
I did over build the bridge, and it's heavy. It definately weighs more than a MaxII. lol

I'm still working on a set of Adair tracks for mine MaxII's have clearance issues, and you are limited to 21" tires if you plan on tracks. I would guess the rubber tracks would do better in the sand, but untill someone tries a comparison how would you know?
Here's a link to my build thread http://www.6x6world.com/forums/max-a...-tall-tub.html
My goal was for 25" tires plus tracks

I have a T-20 swapped into my Seirra Trail Boss (drivetrain modified for it).....I'm putting a 440 Kawasaki 2 stroke twin in it which is around 40hp....should handle it without a problem....

Then you want to check out this thread.

Whipper, Bridget, WFO, George and i went here last year: Glamis Dunes...................WOW what a blast.
Whipper is running a 50 hp in the Spider, Bridget has a 30 hp Bando, WFO has a 35 to 40 hp, George was driving the G50b Scorpion at about 40 or so hp, i was driving the MAX 4 Godzilla with a 60 hp engine. All machines worked great in the dunes.

Since i borrowed the Godzilla machine to ride in the Dunes i have increased the HP in the Carolina Orange Crush to 52 hp. The T-20 is one tough bird. One of the young girls on the site has a Pinto engine in her Max 2, so who knows what they will carry. I do know one thing the desert dunes did not stop the machines..unless you landed on a razor back and bottomed out. The suspension on the springers is the trick in the dunes. As you said keeping the speed up in the soft sand is a must.

George and i were rookies to the Dunes and were under the watchful eyes of Whipper, Bridget and WFO. There is more than meets the eye to riding in the Dunes, which if you have done this type of riding you know very well.

Didn't know if you had seen this post, so hope this helps.
