Have you used a puller? I had one built by a machine shop when I needed to work on my clutch. Mine's an '07 Avenger as well. I don't recall having any issues, once I sprayed it, and used a puller.
Changing Times, the Kiplinger Magazine featured this article in their May, 1970 edition titled "ATV's: Invincible Vehicles that go Anywhere ...for hard work...or just for play" . It is a good article on the booming popularity of AATVs in the 70's and even has a section about conservationists being upset about ATVs even back then. The last page has a neat comparison chart on different ATVs.
