Good luck with that rebuild...Hope you get it all sorted out with very little trouble and even less $$$$$$.

Thanks Guyfox. Unfortunately it doesn't look good. Not sure of the names of all the gears that are gone yet. Here are some pics of the carnage.

Good God! How did everything inside keep moving to pulverize the parts to that degree? Now that's carnage....

Sorry to see that, going to cost, might be best to go with the new g trans. and get the ratio you want.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.

Yea it's going to be expensive either way really. A new trans is $2400 plus shipping. I'd like to just find a used one and go through it and put new seals in it. Any thoughts on that?

There are a couple MU's on ebay in cali, broken /unchecked so pot luck with what you get, may be minor or may be what you have now. The common issues with all of that style is either broken diff gears or hi/low and input shaft gears.

I would guess yours were broke for a while and after second diff. gear let loose it jammed and took out the cage, vibration and heat will loosen the 3 bolts holding the cage together. From what your pics show I'd suspect the helical gears are done also.

I'm not much of a gambler. I would rather get something I can be sure of. It is tempting to try and save some money. I did manage to find a factory rebuilt one for a lot less than $2400. Waiting on replies from a few others to see if they can get it any cheaper. They dealer says I have to hurry because the factory is about to have a summer shut down. So I want to make up my mind by Wednesday of this coming week. I want my machine back on the trails.

Factory rebuilt GU transmission is ordered and should be here sometime next week. Not sure if I should hang on to the old trans or not? There are a few good gears and the housing is in good shape. Also wondering what all I should do while everything is open and exposed? Any thoughts? Ideas?

If you haven't already, pull the engine/powerpack frame and clean and paint any thing that needs it. You may find that wrench you or the previous owner lost too, you may be surprised at how much trash is under there then again maybe none.

Sounds like a lot of work. How easy is it to pull the engine? It could use a good degreasing and paint job.
