Is there any way to increase the top speed of a Conquest. I mostly use it for ice fishing and crossing wide open smooth lakes would be nice to speed up some. I GPS my speed yesterday and I was right at 20mph. Any suggestions on how to get more speed or more top end MPH would be great.

20 mph is very good for an Argo.
To increase your speed, you could: Change your drive gear ratio at your jackshafts. This however is going to rob horsepower...so change the motor too.
OR Just change the motor to something with more HP and higher rpm's. I'd suggest something like a Geo Metro motor, as it has been done before.

Sprocket change will do. Bigger driver or smaller driven. Just a couple teeth will do. You might also check your tranny ratio. If your not in the hills you probably don't need more power, more power don't make speed, higher engine rpm does.sigpic

If you really want to go that route I would post an ad in the wanted section. There were a member or 2 wanting to go from the M trans to the G trans, perhaps you could trade, there was a guy in NJ wanting the lower geared trans for his Bigfoot.sigpic

in all honesty, you might consider a different machine altogether. What you really need is more than 20 hp, less weight, and some suspension for the best fit (for your wants). An argo isn't really designed to run fast, and little bumps become hard on them at that speed. With your machine's weight, 20 hp can be made to get you more speed...on flat hardpack..(or downhill with the wind), but snow will give you problems especially if you need tracks.

Worst case deal maybe a local machine shop can cut the old sprockets off of the output flanges and weld bigger sprockets back on?
One idea no one spoke up about is a better clutching system. Stock Argo clutches are a 2:1 low range and 1:1 at full shift out. Polaris snow mobile clutches (I used xlt) are 4:1 low range and .76 at full shift out. If your in it for speed maybe a snow mobile engine? Get one that is electric start and liquid cooled..... 500 cc should be good for 50 hp at 6500 rpm.... Modern 800 twins would do 140+ hp at 8000 rpm.... Call an Argo dealer and see if you can get smaller spockets on the jack shaft.
If not, this will solve your problems:

The M gear sets are available, you could try to change the jack shaft sprockets as spookum wrote.
If you're ambitious just to see if it works, if your machine has 50-2 chain all the way to the rear you could remove the rear sprockets and place them on the jackshafts for a trial. The jack shafts currently have 24t and the rears on a 50-2 machine are 19t.sigpic
