No "Idler Chains" is a good thing..............I guess.
Not sure if "Counter-Rotating" tires will help in most situations, EX. skirting along the edge of a mudhole, but I would like to try it out.
I would like to have a look at the new Brng/Seal setup, sounds interesting.
Stopping a fully loaded Argo and Trailer with a Quad Brake still doesn't impress me, although it seems to be OK with a lightly loaded machine.
Still trying to give the driver his "Christmas Goose" early with the E-Brake Handle.
Seating arrangement Sucks. Pity the people that have to sit that far back in an Argo, and cargo space will be limited when hauling passengers.

Wonder when I will get a chance to try one out...............

I see lots of improvements that are a big step in the right direction. First, the new tires are a larger version of their Frontier tire and that is what we've needed since day one (and really need now that Goodyear screwed us out of Rawhide III's). Argo's bearing seals have always been good but now they've improved them more. One of these days Max will understand that an amphibious vehicle should be water tight and not just sink slower than a quad.

The new trans is an interesting design. It looks like it still uses the disc brakes to steer, but they are connected only to the trans. There is another set of disc brakes on the output shaft, probably for stopping with the hand brake. This design appears to be true all wheel drive. Counter-rotating is a great feature... Mudd-Ox owners will tell you all about it. I'm not sure that having this feature only in low gear on the Argo will be what we need, but I'll wait for a test drive to give an opinion on that. I suspect Mudd-Ox's steering will still be superior.

Argo is improving their vehicle and spending millions in a market that is all but completely flushed down the toilet. We have to give them credit for hanging on and breaking new ground. If the market EVER turns around to anything near what it was in the late '90s, Argo will be ready with a lower priced recreational vehicle.
Everybody dies, but not everybody lives.

I would think that having the ability to counter-rotate would be great. I'd imagine that it would get you out of more "stuck in the mud" situations and give you one last trick before having to deploy the winch.

I intend to put a split-shift capability in one of my Attexes next spring for this very reason. I see Argo's move to add this feature as a big leap forward and in response to the Mudd Ox's ability to do so.

            2010 Avenger

Had the opportunity to drive a 2010 Avenger 750 today. Even though it was on pavement this machine performed great. We took a few videos of it turning so all could see the way it worked. The opposite side of the drive wheels in a 360 don't turn as fast as i thought they would. The machine feels like it has power steering. Power loss the engine rpm drop was not even noticeable. Bigger axles, Bigger bearings. Needs to be in Black.

            Argo has done well.

PS: I have got to get one of those scoops.

              Lewis,

Thank you so much for posting this video of the new Argo Avenger. Do you need to put it in low gear before it will counter rotate , or does it automatically go into low gear just as soon as it begins to counter rotate?

Must be in low gear for it to counter rotate. This must be done with the selector lever which is on the dash. I have more to post tomorrow. Just thought you guys would like to see one.

                  Nice
I am going in the next two weeks to check out our local dealer..
My ? is will the hydrualics heat up ? if so is there a cooler some where in the system? What kind of hydrualic fluid dose it use and how much.
                  bio or oil based ?
                  \

                  liked the clip

how will the counter rotation work in the dirt/mud
Faster or with more torque to rotate our of the hole your stuck in

                  thanks for sharing

I'm wondering how they accomplish the reverse on that side. I'm wondering if they use a planetary set and brake one component to get the reverse action at a ratio of the input?

                      counter-rotate

It don't counter-rotate like I thought it would. Not like the Mudd-Ox at all, have to wait and see how it does in the mud. Cougar

I split the shifter on both my maxII's to counter rotate. I have used it many times to get me out of all different things.

                          Lewis,

I don,t know if you,ve ever driven Max 6x6 with a T-20,, but I wonder how the new Argo transmission compares with it in skid steering?

No hydraulics are utilized in this system.

Triple planetary gears is what i have heard is what make it work. No jackshafts either.

As far as rotating in dirt and mud, this machine was almost effortless on asphalt to rotate 360. Dirt and mud would not be a problem.
