  • Nice!

One thing, see how the sliders twist towards the spring, swap the arms so the top is on the bottom (and bottom on top) and the twist will be away from the springs applying a little more spring tension. Eventually they will twist around to look just like they do now and you can swap them again.

          • Looking great Plott
Point of interest, I spent 5 hrs yesterday searching for a bad ground that's been plaging me for a long time. I finally discovered it, after i had ripped almost every freekin wire out of my Conquest.
The "Ground Strip" is mounted on the steel brace under the dash. The steel brace was not grounded to anything, it was just touching the aluminium guard that's over the Secondary......... That's how it was grounding. The ground worked most of the time, but was not a good contact with the machine vibration. It got to the point where there was very little contact. Anyway, I made a ground, and now it's all perfect.
I was a pretty happy camper when I finally figured it out. Still kinda POed that I had to rewire everything though

              • The battery ground to the frame is the first place i look when testing any electrical issues.
Use the frame as a test point in different locations...the engine usually has a ground strap to the frame also.

Looks like a ton of work there plott and looking real good. I just spent a week of my r&r going over the wiring on my 01 conquest. I added a 200 amp accessory relay type solenoid to the upper engine compartment along with a separate headlight relay for the auxiliary headlights. I added ground wires to everything like the power pak, the frame, the upper body and I used an 8 gage wire for the ground strip for the wiring harness direct from the battery. Now I have these bruises on my legs above the knees and a very sore back, but better at home in the shop than out in the bush with propane torch and a pair of rusty pliers. Good luck and have fun with that beast, cant wait for a report on how that overhauled engine runs.

Sorry folks I've been away from the 6x6 forum for awhile. Still haven't got my restoration completed but will be diving back into it in the near future. Not sure what happened to my restoration thread. I'll post pics once I get back at it.

                      • No I haven't given up on it. It just got put on the back burner for a bit. My biggest hurdle is getting the rats nest of wiring hooked back up and sorting out the governor on the twin cylinder B&S engine. Once those are done it should come together quick.

Once completed however I'm thinking I will sell it as I've come to learn that I'm not a big fan of working on them.

Or if someone wanted they could take it off my hands as is.......Any takers "?

Rock Doc about 15 years back I had a Cadillac it was a beauty one of the best ones I ever owned,it developed a issue when it was just out of warranty, randomly it would missfire, stall, and strange electronic gremlins would come and go,then for weeks it ran like a champ,it was in and of a couple of shops replaced this and that in the ignition, finally ended up at one of Toronto,s premier Caddy dealerships they replaced the ECU/CCU and a bunch of sensors and deemed it huge to go,the bill was certainly huge, off I went two weeks later same thing on and off gremlins, fed up I dealt the car on a new truck and the dealer that took it in I knew and had done business with in the past so I came clean with the cars issues he didnt care we made the deal all was good.A couple months latter I brought the truck in for service and the mechanic that worked on it came to me and told me he bought my old Caddy off the used car lot, when the gremlin reared its head he did some trouble shooting and replaced the ground cable and boom problem solved, thirty dollars and good to go,so for me lesson learned I add more grounds to everything I own.LMAO at myself NCT

Hey Plott, not to hijack, but I have to respond to this one
I spent almost 2 months, off and on, trying to find a dead short in my wifes truck. Battery kept going dead. Spent hours and hours pulling, poking, proding, looking, testing (I am NO electrician, lol). Anyway, I finally found it........................The lighter in the ashtray compartment, the lighter was out, and a pin fell into the lighter socket. It was making the contacts and draining the battery. Gawd I hate electrical systems.

                              • If you want to see what your machine looks like when its completely stripped down, check out a few pic's I posted in the photo gallery. I've been plugging away on the overhaul for about 5 weeks off and on, I have to say, there is a lot of bolts to one of these units. I am completing the wiring today and should have the beast running by this afternoon....the appolstery lady hasn't finished the seats yet (Monday) so I may have to test drive it using a stack of rags for comfort.lol.
