Replaced the coil and condenser. still dies after 10 to 15 minutes of idle time. I guess I'll replace the coil by the points next. It did seem to idle fine till I tried to put it in gear and drive it. Then no spark. No pinched wires that I can see

This thing just keeps throwing me curve balls. Like I said it runs great for about 10 minutes then loses spark. I have replaced the external coil to no avail. I even put the other coil back on while it was at room temperature and still no spark. I replaced the points condenser. Replaced the internal ignition coil and the same thing happens. What am I missing? This is a simple system. All of the components have been replaced that could make it lose spark. I guess I need to check wiring very close. Maybe even the ignition switch? I did replace the switch long ago with one I got at NAPA. HELP PLEASE!!

I haven't read back so I apologize if you did this already but did you try another spark plug? Was is the condition of the wire going from the coil to the spark plug?"Racing is life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting."

Well tonight is slightly different. I found what I am gonna call a "weak" spot in the ground wire that goes from neg to ground on the external coil. I replaced it with a wire that has alligator clips on both ends just to test. The engine idled for probably 30 minutes before I did anything. Decide to test drive it. So, I went out and back, out and back, you get the picture. Not real trusting cause i have pushed this thing in my barn too many times. finally it dies. No spark again. test light on wire from ig switch to internal coil shows a pulse during crank. still a pulse to external coil also. Sat down to so some reading and studying for 20 minutes or so. Decides to try it and it started right back up. I guess my next try is to "replace" the wire from ignition switch to internal coil and swe what happens.

You may be on to something there, I think I might replace the ground wire from battery to ground post on switch also. Be sure kill wire goes to M post and ground goes to ground post, if they are reversed goofy stuff happens. If there is no ground the switch may be seeking a ground.sigpic

So here is a question for ya. I replaced the wire from g on ignition switch to chassis ground. went to test drive it and it wont shut the engine off by the key. Does the ground wire go to other places besides chassis ground? Did my wire pass something?Last edited by 507rzr; 02-15-2020, 07:40 PM.

Am I to guess it out rode your last trip? We may have gotten somewhere, if your engine is rubber mounted (anywhere including the cradle) there needs to be a ground cable/strap from engine to frame or engine to battery and battery to frame (switch).
