Well Mike, I think you talked me into it! I have some vacation time to use up so I think Ill take it around that weekend. I'd like to try and find a little trail machine to have before then too, such as a little Max II or something since I haven't even started the hustler rebuild yet...and if I could find a nice used Max II, I wouldn't have to take the nice and clean 300/D out on the trails!

Even if your machine isn't ready, you should really try to get down to Ash' if only for a day or two. It's one of the (if not only) times of the year that a lot of the fast, obscure and downright strange machines tend to come out of the woodwork for a gathering. The trails are a lot of fun when the racing isn't going on, and the camping area is just beautiful. Heck, the entrance fee for the whole weekend is cheaper than a couple bearings! In the past, they haven't even minded that bums like the Buggyman show up on Wednesday.
You couldn't ask for better hosts than the Fischers.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments! Well, I have spent many hours on the body and I think I am just about done. Today, I used rubbing compound and polish on the entire exterior. In doing so, I think my poor wetsanding skills were made obvious. The entire body looks 'wavy,' but I think it may just be the body showing its age because the 'waves' do not appear to be consistent with the method in which I did the wetsanding
I must have caught some bad reflections when taking these pictures because it looks a bit better in person that it does on here. Anyway, the only thing I have left to do is the inside of the upper body, but I think I will do that after I get it back to a roller. Here are some pictures:

Very nice work! Get that nice freshly powder coated black frame in there and you're machine is going to look brand new. One of the best first generation Attexes out there for sure!

i have a 1973 attex supercheif or tomahawk not sure but i blew out a bearing on the left front outter and i cannot get the axle apart any i deas? i did remove the tire and i tryed to get the bolt out will not budge nut came off fine

I had my frame sandblasted and powdercoated. It's starting to look great! I am working on getting it bolted together. After looking back on the many pictures I took of this machine as I was breaking it down, I realized I need to fix the arrangement of my brake levers to correct the clearance issue I am having. Here are some picture of how it is looking thus far.

I met up with jpswift1 yesterday so we could drop my frame off to his local sandblaster and he was gracious enough to put me behind the sticks of one of his aatv's so I could get my first ever experience of what it is like to operate an aatv...needless to say, it was great! We rode some of his machines around for a bit and I am more interested in the hobby now than ever! It has made me want to finish this ST/300/D even more. Thanks again Jeff!
When we were looking at my frame, we noticed the letters and numbers "CP72652" that were stamped on it. Does anybody know what they may stand for? From what I have heard, I guess many of the first gen machines didn't have numbers stamped on the frame, so I am not really sure what these numbers may mean?

I also forgot to share the following when I discovered it over the summer, but when I was degreasing the inside of the tub, I noticed that there was an '808' crudely carved in the body. I then looked at the dash, which has luckily survived and is still fairly complete on my 300/D, and it says that my serial number is 808. Was this something that was probably done in the factory, or is it something that my Grandfather may have done many, many years ago? Are there any other places that serial numbers may have been put on an Attex, specifically a first gen?
