  • Hello 6x6world.com. Ever since I was a kid i would see an aatv and just dream of the day of having my own, That day has came but i am 45 and still a big kid. I plan to use the max II to get around the campground and do some trail riding, if i can keep my 2 sons and son-in-law from it. I am a welder/mechanic by trade. the more i read on this site the more enthused i get.

    • Hello to everyone, my name is Christian and just had a dream come true...got my first aatv! its an 04 maxx II. I have owned just about everything else at some point as far as bikes and atvs but have always wanted one of these! I live in southern Maryland and have a ton of questions about this thing. I just got it running tonight and took it for my first spin..what a blast. the previous owner parked it thee years ago and that was that...good and bad for me the entire fuel system was trashed! found a ton of great info already on the site and hope to find more.

      • I was told that the 440 in the older argos were only 16 hp but from the speed of the 70 and 80 snow machine going across fields or lakes were traveling much faster than a 16 hp could produce so I'm back to clutch or gear rato of the skidoo veris argo trans. Willie Mac (mira)

                      • Good evening from south Georgia. I recently aquired a 1998 Max IV that had been sitting up for several years. After spending a couple of weeks reading about different issues others were having on the site - - I was able to get it up and running pretty well. It is an amazing vehicle, but needs more TLC to really be up to spec.

I have really enjoyed the site, very informative. I am debating between doing the rest of the detail work, or selling the vehicle and buying something less of a project. So far:

                        new solenoid
                        new chains
                        cleaned carb and fuel system
                        lubed everything I could find...
                        new battery
                        verified no leaks

                        needs:
                        seat covers

(continued - very hard to post from ipad)
                        and a good washing...

It has a 16 hp vanguard and 26 inch tires. The previous owner finally got the original owners manual and brochures to me today.

Thank ya'll for the good information.

Hello Brady, welcome to the site. Owning an Max II for 37 years is quite a feat. Upload some pictures to the gallery of it if you have some. Very cool.

Hi Nitrosteel, welcome to the 6x6 forums. It sounds like you have a good bit of work under your belt. Surely you can get that Max to a point where it is reliable and fun to play with. Good luck with it.

                          • I've had my Hustler 950 with a kohler 16 h.p. for a couple years now. Runs but the engine is worn out so plan on replacing it. Run tracks on it because I bought it for ice fishing here in wyoming. Also has some bent axles that I need to relace. It has a factory rollbar, so right know I'm working on a windshield for it then I plan on working on the engine. I glad to have found this sight because there is alot of good information. Thanks

                            • Welcome to the site, Ben! (Can I welcome people, Mike?) Is your Kohler 16hp a K341? If so, I have the same machine. The K341 is a good engine, and fairly easy to rebuild. I think that it cost me $500 to rebuild mine from sitting out in the weather for 10 years or so, but $300 of that was for a carb and fuel pump.

                              • It does have the K341, but I'm wanting a little more power to run in deep snow with tracks. Also would like to get away from the battery ignition and not having pull start backup. It's a long walk to the truck when it's 10 below zero outside.
