  • Bart and Lee, welcome to the site.

Bart, you just dive in head first don't you? That avenger sound loaded! You shouldn't be disappointed with it at all. Post some pictures when you get it.

Lee, it's great to have you on the site. That was some good history on Scrambler. Please do upload some pictures to the gallery.

I look forward to seeing you both on the forums!

    • Nice information/history on the scrambler. I wonder? does the scrambler scrambler have the "S" seat instead of the action age logo? I have one with the "s" and have seen one other with the same "s" but havent ever noticed any more.

      • Hi , I have a Max IV with the vanguard 16 HP engine and have a few questions about it,
        1) the atv pulls to the right even on level ground, therefore you have to compensate for this by applying left stick, any ideas on the cause/solution to this problem??
2)to get the engine to idle you have to pull the choke lever out half way, i am assuming this is carb related, any suggestions about adjusting the carb??
3)when i go in water with it, its very slow/ uncontrollable in foward, yet very fast and controllable in reverse, can you reverse the tires, and if so , will you lose traction/ speed by doing this
        4) my left chain that connects my back wheel to my middle wheel was popping off, but i adjusted the idler pully to tighten it up and it has worked fine since then, is this a fix for this, or do i have another greater problem??

sorry for all of the questions right off the bat, but you guys seem to really know your stuff, any help with any or all of these questions will be awesome, thanks so much

        -Elliott

        • Hello,
My name is Jason Welch and I live in Tioga Pennsylvania. It's a little town on the NY state border on Rt.15 that has fallen off the map long ago. I was out looking at an old Brockway truck in the woods when I stumbled upon this little 6 wheel drive ATV. I really had no idea what it was and so I started searching around. The farmer that has it told me he bought it out of a junk yard because he thought it was made by Alice Chalmers and he is an Alice collector. When he found out it wasn't he had no interest in it. He took out the motor (9hp) and put it in his shop and put the rest of the vehicle in the hedge row with the rest of his junk. My son (5 years old) fell in love with this beast immediately; let’s just say my wife does not share the same enthusiasm. I talked to the farmer a bit and he told my you just couldn't find tires for "those things" anymore so he never did anything with it. I called "Richards Relics" and he told me it would be $800 to put new tires on it. Oh boy, now my wife really won't let me drag it home. I have restored various projects so I am pretty handy. I restored a 1959 Oliver 550, a 1950's J.C. Higgins skip tooth bike, a 1972 Skidoo 440 TNT, and I am close to finishing my daily driver 1957 International S110 pickup. So I guess my wife has a point, but I can't help bring things back from the dead. So this is where I need some advice and lots of help. Is this Scrambler worth pulling out of the hedge row or should I just realize my limitations and allow this one to rust in peace. Anything would help me make this decision. Thank you for the help everyone.

            • Elliott, mountain, and LostSwampRat; welcome to the site

mountain, just from the pictures you will probably have a lot of money tied up in restoring that one before it was in running condition. For less money, if you are patient you can find something on ebay or craigslist that is already running with tires and all of the parts. You still may have to replace bearings, chain, etc. but overall I think you would be better off that way. However if you are looking for something to restore and enjoy spending the time on something like that then go for it. Whatever you do, before you spend a lot of money from a dealer post a wanted ad here in the classifieds for any parts, tires, etc. You never know what you can find from the members of this site and if they don't have it someone can usually point you in the direction of the cheapest place to purchase new.

LostSwampRat, good luck in your search for an AATV!

                • There is a buyers guide in How to forum under general. Here is a link to help you get started.

This will get you started and help when you go looking. Hope this helps

                  • Hello Everyone,

I'll admit I'm new to this sight and new to aatv's. I started visiting the sight accouple of months ago and really got the bug to get one. So I browsed the gallery, read accouple of post, found the AATV buyers guide (nice little guide) and promptly went out and bought a 6x6 (on sunday just two days ago). Found it on craigslist, setup a time and forgot to take the checklist with me

It starts and It drives... It's got dings and nicks and cracks and holes where there shouldn't be any. It has had a REAL hard life. The top cover (which is actually made of some sorta red plastic) has been broken and is missing the back half which has been replace with wood. Never-the-less I couldn't help myself. Like a kid in a candy story it didn't matter how sour it was, I had to have it.

I was told that it is a Sierra Trail Boss. I believe it is not. It has only 1 transmission in it which has from what i can tell at least 1 forward gear and a reverse (somewhat difficult to get in and out of because of the short shifter arm between your legs), it has a kholer k241s 10hp motor, a bench seat and 6 wheels and tires (only 4 that match) goodyear 11x21x8 I believe. I have posted some pictures. So if anyone could please identify what I have got, it will go a long way to me starting to fix this thing up. I will say the goal is not to get to a restored condition but to work with what I have, fix the tub (I'd like to float it) and mod the rest into a nice little hunting rig. I will be trying to find manuals at first and parts as needed.

I look forward to the flaming I will get for jumping in with both feet and please let me know if you can identify this soon to be fine machine.

additional pictures avail in the galllery under MrPiggss.

                    • Hi MrPiggss. Welcome to the site and congratulations on your new purchase. It is a Max II manufactured by Recreatives Industries in Buffalo New York. For parts you can post a wanted ad here on the site or call the manufacturer as they are still in business. Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511

                      • Welcome Mrpiggss!!!

Well as you stated, its rough. But that is an awesome machine and with some getting to now it and some time wrenching it has potential for sure. Looks like you have done some research here and that is cool. At least you bought a modern machine still produced so parts are easy to get. Im sure you know but your 4 front tires are backwards for swimming. The rear tires wont swim at all. But unless you plan on spending most of your time in water they would be ok. I recently had a chance to repair a buddies poly body and wow is that stuff easy to fix. I heated it with torch carefully and got the plastic to mend together then I cut a chunk of plastic off the top to a coffee can (thin plastic)and melted it over the patch and was really impressed with the results. Looked good even. Anyways good luck with your machine. Feel free to ask away and keep us updated on your progress!!!

Hello everyone, I am up in Barrie Ontario Canada, I have been into restoring older snowmobiles and motorcycles for awhile, at one point I had 36 snowmachines and 8 motorcycles. I own a C+4 Playcat that I found way up in Northern Ontario and eventually restored it back to running condition, and noticed you had a couple of pictures of her posted in your gallery, its a wonderful machine, and was quite alot of fun putting it back together. I recently retired from the Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer after 37 years, and am loving the time off to do things I want rather than having to do what I have to. Looking forward to seeing some your projects and chatting with the members of this group as we all have a common thread between us all, the Amphibious ATV's, thank-you for allowing me into your group.
