New member and new owner of a Max IV. I bought this machine on a whim and out of curiosity more than anything. Took it out to the pig lease yesterday and pretty impressed with it's capabilities. Couple of questions to the Max experts out there reading I'm hoping you can help with... The guy I bought it from said it was 1996 but how do you tell. I have no title but there is a serial number on the dash. It has the round headlights and I found some old file pictures on the internet that show 1996 97 98 models that appear to be the same machine but would just like to verify. Also, the steering seems a little stiff, is this normal or is there some adjustment that can be made. I looked at the shift mechanisim and it looks like you could install some teflon washers that might help. Any thoughts on this from anyone??? Also, it seemed to be starving for fuel when I went up a steep incline, I suspect this is just becauase it's not fuel injected. Thx in advance for any tech tips...

Hi
My name is Jon
I just discovered this awsome site and I've been lurking for awhile.
I became interested in AATVs when I was about 5 back in the early 70's.
I checked out Ed Radlauer's kids book "On the Sand" from the library and I was hooked.
For those who don't know this book, it's all about 3 and 6 wheeled ATVs. It was published in 72 back in the heyday.
I had almost forgotten about these vehicles till I found this site.
I don't own an AATV but hope to someday.
Cheers
Jon

amcfreak, pighunter, and jneuman, welcome to the site.
pighunter, if you will call the factory with your serial number they will tell you what year it is: Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511 For your stiff steering, there is a spring on each lateral that puts tension on the sticks. You can loosen or tighten a bolt to change the tension. Try that and if it still is too tight you can always get some softer springs or remove them all together. A lot of people don't even use them.
Jon, that sounds like a neat book. I will have to check it out. Thanks!

fantastic site, hope I can be of some help. I am trying to get amphimans number-he knew where there was a kadoo near n hampshire, I think, the dealer had it, it had the t20 trans, it of course was missing the trans, I found out they did make a kadoo II and it had the t20 with a kohler 4 cycle the first kadoo had clutches and an apex trans with a kohler 2 cycle engine. I have one ,but it is missing the guts. steve if your out there, call me 906 249 3458 joel in marquette. need to do some trading. the snow has gone here, and my buffalo can be seen, I couln't get it in last fall - then it snowed. there it has sat all winter. horrible, let it sit in winter? 1/2 of my ski doos were buried all wiinter too. too deep to dig them out. thanks appriciate the atv forum, and the contacts. looking for a kadoo, i have an attex for trade/ sale, and a terrable tiger. also for trade or sale.

Hi everyone. I started with the atvs in 1969 when my dad was a sales manager for eastern slope distributing in Billings Mt. I ended up doing demos and working on the machines at the demonstrations. There was a 7hp pull start, 8hp pull w/optional electric start, both briggs and straten, and then the machine I fell in love with was the 12hp tecumseh electric start. We clocked that machine at 40 mph. and it could fly. Action Age went out of business in 1974.The machine didn't need a reverse due to it's weight. You could pick the front end up and spin it easily or cloimb a tree and coast it backwards. I purchased a machine that was from a dealer in Wa. state my dad had set up in 69. It was an 8hp. I looked into purchased the molds and equipment in 1977 to resume the manufacturing but military commitments put a halt to that. A group of guys bought the molds and equipment and started manufacturing scrambler by scambler manufacturing in Genoa, Oh. I purchased a Demo in 1981 and started a distributorship in Wi. My new machine was a 16hp with electric reverse and tracks. I was much heavier due to the extra fibreglass used in the bodies. The electric start was teeth added to the right clutch disc with a starter motor and the first couple of times of use it stripped the teeth. This machine was heavy enough that you needed a reverse. If you tried to run it like the older lighter machines all you would due it break the covington chains and engine framework. I would run it for an hour and work on it for a couple. Still loved the machine but you had to be gentle with it. No doing donuts or jumping etc.. I have some pictures I will up load and if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. lee
