I,m new to this kind of thing...anyway I have a 2001 Max IV with 18 horse vanguard I just bought this fall. I had some difficulty with shifting until I bought a shift kit... Presently having some trouble with having enough power to climb steeper hills, acts like there is a govener on it. Any suggestions? Eventually I would like to put tracks on it and I,m afraid it would,nt have the power... So far even with these problems it has been alot of fun...

I have the same set up with tracks. Works well. Remember it is a clutch driven machine. When in first take off from a dead stop or driving slow , this is when you have the most power. As the clutch opens you gain speed. Like a snow sled. Depending on what kind of grade speed before hand is helpful but will only leave you halfway up and then you will have to
Back down if it won't go the rest of the way. Best to know the machines limitation and stick controls before attempting major hills. Carb issues , belt slip, lack of experience with sticks. I plow with my Max 4 and the slower I go, more snow I push.

By the way,,,does anyone know the specs of the T-20 trannyas far as the maxium of tourk it can take on the input shaft?

Passed on the trail boss, found a 85 max2 . :-) had a blast the first few outings, got it in the garage replacing front chains and fabricating new adjusters,replaced all the fluids ,tuned up for general principal.. once I get that together gonna make a snow plow for it. If anybody.has pics of frame work for that style hub,it'd be great thanks in advance fellas you guys are great!

Welcome to the site! The trail boss is cool but the max2 is a better off roader with the increased clearance. Congrats on your new maxII!

A worn belt or driven clutch spring will greatly effect the power. If its a belt it changes the whole drive ratio and acts like it in a higher gear. The top of the belt should be flush with the top of the driven pulley. If the spring is bad in the driven pulley it will have the normal power until it needs to cycle down in the ratios. To test that try climbing the hill and when it gets doggy, stop completely and try taking off again. If it climbs up easy then the spring is broken or weak ussualy. They can take large amounts of torque. I think you will run into what ever will fit in the machine, it will take it. Members on the site have run Ford pinto engine, 1.0 3 cylinder suzuki engines and highly mod briggs. Of coarse Im sure they will wear quicker and occasionally brake something but not normally an issue. I read you where planning on a diesel? What size? Sounds cool.

Well Hello there LarryW,I am looking at a Kabota 1.4 right now because it seems to weight less than the Yanmars and the Isuzu's and every other diesel I have looked at. Also the tourque curve stays pertty straight across the board from 1500 RPM to 3500,say around 50 LBS psf for the model I an looking at now,,,,,But things are subject to change,,,I would like some more input here from some more of the members,,,,Later Y'all

I purchased a Max II last fall and have had the engine rebuilt and all the drive trains gone through. I also installed a winch on it and purchased a carrier and ramps for the top of my 2002 Chevy Silverado. My wife Bonnie and I own a cabin back in the Big Belt Mountains here in Montana and it will be fun running around there with it. So far it's fun to use but a little small for my 6'4" frame. I haven't had a chance to install the tracks that came with it so if anyone has any suggestions on how to do that please let me know.

I have been using one of my neighbor's Argos - a 1998 Conquest - in the lower Mississippi Delta for the past week and am now interested in buying it. Neither of us has any idea what it is worth but maybe I can read through some threads here to get an idea. Any Argo owner would be envious of the week I have had in flooded green timber, cypress brakes, flooded fields playing at our hunting camp. I'm guessing that perfect conditions for this type vehicle don't come around often but we have them now, which is of course why I'm so fired up to buy the one I've been using. If anyone can direct me to a site or forum where values and repairs are discussed that's probably my first stop.

This is the place !What is it a 8x8 or 6x6 and how many hours on it,how does it run,how are the tires? I personal do not know the value of a argo used but I am sure someone on here does. New ones are expensive 20k up here.
If the machine is well off and you want it ,pretty hard to put a price on that for you.Ask your neighbor what he wants and go from there.

I own a 2002 Conquest/super track 8x8 and lot of options, 2005 Bigfoot Camo Wetland 6x6, RZR Modified, 4~Quads, Cushman Trackster updated, 2-GTX Wave runners, 22ft Ocean boat. I was Paralyzed Dec.1971 at the age of twenty. During my first and last motorcycle mountain race.
Attex was my first 6x6 in 1973 , 1975 Cushman Trackster is still my favorite ATV to this day. The trackster can't float, but man can it get with it on rugged terrain. I have slid down a steep hill, facing forwards, tracks going forward, sliding down and watched my friend face change colors, while holding on up front for dear life
I had 3 different annual Argo Day at Outdoor adventures for the active disabled and abled. Watched a Bigfoot out preform my Conquest. Yep bought a Bigfoot and still get it stuck in my gooy mud! Open invitation to come bring your bad boy atv to my playground anytime!

I am new to the site, I enjoyed seeing the photos of the Arnold Ranger, as that is why I started looking at the site. I have one, and it was very helpful to find the scematics, and manual for the machine. I had the clutch rebuilt, put new bearings in, tires etc, and this should be a great vehicle for me going across the lowlands in Northeastern Minnesota. Thanks for all the information.
