Greetings All,

I recently purchased an ’83 Argo (8X8) here in the Toronto area, which I am using at the cabin up north... Maynooth, Ontario. My indoctrination into Argo ownership last week involved -24 degree (Celsius) weather and a tonne of snow, which was nice. I have spent the last month reading through the forum and enjoying the many informed and helpful threads throughout. Thanks all your time spent in educating; on behalf of all newbies, your time spent writing comments is much appreciated.

And now for my questions......

Cleats for Tracks
I have standard Argo tracks ( not the Super Tracks ). Will the Super Track cleats work with my tracks. Are there alternative products out there.

My machine keeps pulling to the right
I will be double checking the tire pressure this week but my impression is that I need to reduce the psi on the right tires. I think I need to keep it between 4 to 5 pounds.

Tracks not engaging
Now I know I need to fine tune my machine and this will take time, but this really got under my skin. Occasionally either the right (or left) tracks did not engage. This became very apparent when I was trying to scale some very steep and very icy trails. What I noticed was that I regularly felt a hard knock below my feet. When the left tracks were not engaging, the left steering lever was extremely tight.... as in I could not move it much. In order to remedy this, I put it in neutral, reverse geared and revved it in neutral. Not sure what worked or not.... but I wasn’t able to grasp any consistency. Any thought on this would be appreciated.

Hi Marauder, welcome to the site. For your technical questions, please start a new thread in the Argo forum since this is mainly an introduction thread. Someone there should be able to help you. As for your machine pulling to one side, don't just check the air pressure, measure the circumference of each tire with a ribbon tape or string and get them all equal circumference as the size of each tire may vary even at the same air pressure.

Hello, I am new to this forum. I have a 1969 amphicat 6x6 I'm restoring. I need some tips on repairing the abs body. I am from Indiana and have a small machine shop so the mechanical stuff shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Roy, Welcome to the site. ABS is easy to repair, it melts in acetone. Make a goo out of some scrap pieces, they will melt easier if they are cut into small strips. Clean and soften the spot to be repaired by rubbing with a cloth soaked in acetone, then apply the goo. If the spot is large, you may want to use some cloth like is used with fiberglass for reinforcement. Multiple thin coats will work better, allowing it to harden between. Thanks. I have read that but wanted to find out if it really worked. I was also told Legos was made of ABS and could be used for repairs. After I have it fixed I was thinking about used truck bed liner to paint it for additional strenght.

Legos will work, but as for the bed liner, I would steer clear of it. On the outside it will grab rocks and logs you intend to slide over, and on the inside it will grab your chains and cause additional wrap and stress on your axles, sprockets, and chains.

Hello everyone, I am Jimmer, own a 1999 max ii, with a 16 vanquard, it is in excellent condition, barely being used, needs a windshield, which I built today, cab, will try to make unless I can obtain a used one, I want tracks for snow , looking at richards plastic because of cost and small usage, have 22" new tires that came with, need 21" for tracks, picked up 5"used extensions today for $100, and have basically spent last 4 hours reading up on things here, and have learned immensily !!! Welcome to the site, Jimmer. First off, NEVER EVER deal with Richard Clark/Route6x6. He has badly burned many, many new members to the hobby, his prices are ridiculous, his customer service is absolutely horrible, many of his parts are of inferior quality, his shipping and "handling" charges are through the roof, and he is very misleading. When you read about all the people that have been burned by him you'll see why to avoid him. He just gets parts from manufacturers and marks them up. Welcome to 6X6World! There are many 6 wheelers here in the northeast, especially cool vintage ones that need some work. There are many members in the PA/OH/NY region that get together for rides, wrenching sessions, and meets to BS and meet people. The big one coming up in June is in Ashtabula, Ohio at Pine Lake. There is a big 6x6 race and trail ride. You should stop on by and you'll certainly catch the fever. Until then, keep an eye on Craigslist and watch the Craigslist/ebay/machines for sale section of the site because when someone finds a good deal it's usually posted there.

Good morning fellow 6x6 and 8x8 members....My name is Charlie Kempf and I live in Cedar rapids Iowa, I am an 2005 ARGO AVENGER owner and operator< I also own a Rhino 450 and polaris 550 2011 snow mobile....My interests are many but mostly involving fishing adventures and spending fun times with my grandson...I own and operate Capt.Charlies Ice guide and sleeer rentals on lake of the woods and Devils lake North Dakota, I travel back n forth weekly hauling my ARGO and Snowmobile....I also own and operate Capt.Charlies ERIE FEELING Charter fishing on lake ERIE and Im the proud owner of Professional Roofing and Siding here in the CR Iowa....Im 47 yrs old and my motto for life is ( Id rather be fishing and thinking about GOD than sitting in church thinking about fishing)....lol I have other interest in farming and HORSES and I have 3 nice trail horses that I ride regulary around my parents farm on the maqouketa caves area they have 1000 acres of the most beutiful terrain to run around on when Im not out on the lake somewhere...I hope this has givn you some idea of who I am, and I look forward to discussing any ideas or information that relates to 6x6 or 8x8 all terrain vehicles...!

Hi Guys name is Cedric. I live in Toronto .I bought a 2000 650 HD. which i use for ice fishing. Have not done much off-roading but i plan to soon. Hoping to rig it for duck hunting and also to use it to access some remote lakes. I have fitted the out board mount and would welcome any ideas for rigging up a portable duck blind and an ice auger mount.I am presently on site looking for any suggestions for synthetic oil for the transmission . Recommended is Hypoid C.
