Hi from The Land Downunder. My name is Gary, but me mates call me Gazza. I am a retired long distance/interstate truck diver filling in time as a Secrity Officer. I live in Mackay on the central coast of Queensland Australia. I do a lot of pig shooting and camping/hunting and we get a lot of bloody rain, so an AATV is what I'm chaseing to do that with some ease. Not as young as I was once and any comfort and safty wont go astray. When you ask some one here about ARGO's or AATV's they look at you like you have exposed yourself to their grandmother. When you describe them as the "Banana Splits Buggy" you can see the lights fliker on sometimes. Used Argo's or any AATV's are like chickens teeth here. We have ONE importer of Argo for the entire country and they are nearly 1000 miles from me. After I regained consciousness when I heard the prices for new vehicles, my wife and I (mostly the wife) decided to buy a used machine and re-build it. I'm not sure if it was the prices or some devine female intervention with something hard that made me MIA for a while. The only way I could afford a new Argo would be with a .44 magnum and a bandanna. A new Argo 700 Avenger 8x8 is over $30k aud and a 750 EFI will leave just enough change for a beer from $35k aud. Frontier 6x6 will relive you of $20k. Don't know if you know who Ned Kelly was. Well, he was our natorious Iron Outlaw. A hundrd years or more ago he wore armor, robbed the rich, stole cattle and shot Police and had a good time and was hung for it. I can tell you he is still alive and well and controls ALL import businesses in this country You seem to me to be a friendly and helpfull bunch of blokes and hope you dont mind giving me some advice when I get stuck in the "brown smelly stuff". When I can lay my sweaty hands on a repairable Argo I have only one source of information and help and that is you blokes. There is NO information on how or what to do here localy. I will have to use and/or "adapt" non-genuine parts because of availibility and cost and with your help I should be able to do it right. I might be a thick skinned, nealy 60 year old ex-truckie but have enough sense to listen when I hear good, honest advice. You Guy's take care, and thanks for the help and info you have given me over the last year os so I have been viewing this site. And that also goes for any further help you give.

          • Welcome Gazza,

Any pics of those pigs you mentioned?
I would love to get into some of that, some day

I google earthed "Mackay", looks like it's pretty populated around your area. What river is that, looks like there might be some good riding on the north side?

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

                      • New 6x6 Guy

                        Hello.
I am new to the 6x6 world. Just signed up on this site yesterday. My name is Ron. Kermath is the brand of marine engine that I put in a boat that I built. I live in Fond du Lac, WI. About an hour north of Milwaukee. My backgound is mostly electromechanical and cabinet making. I also restore wood boats. Prewar Chris Crafts. I like mechanical antiques. ( The 6x6's just about qualify). I have a 1500 sq. ft. shop attached to the house. Radiant floor heat, 10' ceiling, electrical service, full bath roughed in, a ceiling mounted I-Beam with lifting trolleys and a very understanding wife. A couple of my friends picked up 3 6x6's a couple weeks back. All kind of rough. I am supplying the restoration labor and space and we all get to play with the toys when we are done There is an Amphicat, Terra Tiger and a Sidewinder. I am doing the Cat first. Sachs 277cc engine. ODG Transmission. The body is pretty beat up but I guess I'll learn how to weld ABS and mix up ABS goo.
I am putting in new bearings. I am still wondering what keeps the axles in place on this thing. Replacing chains as need be. It has been painted a tan. Originally it was red. I am not sure how I am going to make the tan go away yet. Paint it or sand it? It has knobby tires which will be ok to start with. I am slowly learning the 6x6 lingo. I will have many questions along the way. I look forward to meeting everyone. Ron

                              Kermath,
Welcome to the site! It sounds like you have all the necessities for this adventure. Just don't tell my husband about all the amenities in your shop. He has a shop, with walls, floors and ceiling. It has electricity, a wood stove for warmth and bush out back for the bathroom. One thing you guys do have in common is an understanding wife. He made me happy by buying me a Max II (and I do have an addiction to shoes and pocketbooks that he doesn't make me seek therapy for). It works for us.
Have a great time with all your toys and the upcoming adventures!
