  • [QUOTE=kghills;116204]Hi Joe, this site is great and full of information on ALL models of 6x6. Just put some time aside each day and read, read, read. I also did a lot of searching on my area Craigs lists and if you have a local 6x6 dealer stop in and see if you can take a drive. Keep at it and you will find the perfect one or it will find you. All a matter of perspective.

Thanks kghills been reading for hours. Found one local a mid 90's max 2 looks good wants 3400 for it. Not sure I have read that some have hollow axles and later had solid. Alot of info on here. Has a 14hp engine looks clean.

Just undecided! So many to choose from but the max seems good!
8 wheels are better then 4!

        • As my handle implies, I'm from the northwest corner of Alberta Canada.Been reading a lot in the forums and after seeing the great advice to other enthusists I decided to join up. I purchased a 2000 Conquest for a rebuild as my introduction into the "Argo" world and found that elbow grease can only go so far...but a cutting torch goes all the way through! I have been taking photos throughout the project and once I figure out how to post them I will send some updates when it actually shows progress. lol.

            • somehow i missed this thread when i signed up so i have talked to a few of you already. anyhow my name is josh i live in northwest pa. never had or even road a 6x6 but found a real good deal on a max II so now i have a project on my hands. frame was tweaked pretty bad so i cut it apart straightened everything and now have it in one straight piece again. i was goin to use a 4-stroke after the guys on here suggested that it would be best but my good deal on a 4-stroke didn't work out. so since i am on a tight budget i ended up with an electric start 500cc arctic cat/suzuki 2-stroke for a power plant. just about ready to weld the mounts in. i am a machinist by trade i can see that its goin to come in very handy with this project.

                    Hi Bob,

Since you're in Waterford, PA, you're not very far from quite of few 6X6World members. Get in touch with 6X6World member Amphibious Drew. He's in Meadville and is very good with Attexes. It sounds like you have an Attex Superchief since it has the Chaparral engine in it. We'll be glad to help you out. Welcome to the site!

                    • just saying hello I have a 68 attex I traded a gun for it was a basket of parts. I found out that the shifter on the 7000
trans was not engaging all the way so I started looking around and saw this site. I am having problems getting the sun gear
off the shaft and was wandering if any body had any experience with that trans. Anyway I am glad I join this site

                      • Hey Larry!
                        Welcome to the site!
Im guessing the little brass pin is wore in your shift forks. If you take the planatary disk off(pressed on) on the side without the driven clutch you can get to it without messing with the drive clutch. The brass pin goes in the shift fork and moves the shift collar. It is pressed in. You can probably get a new one at a hardware store or where ever but when mine went out I was able to just press it out some so it catches the shift collar again. Pretty easy fix. I hope its all it is. If not there is also some pins in the shift fork and shift lever that might have broke too. Hopefully its not the dogs on the shift collar. I wouldnt know where to get new one. Maybe you can have a shop weld in new metal and machine it back to original? Lets just hope thats not the case. Good luck with it!

you have to take the palnetary sun gear off to get in to the forks thanks

                          • If I remember right you have to take one side off. It seems the shaft runs through the gear box and both ends have pressed bearings a c clips and such. So its all sandwiched in there until you remove one side. I just took the one side off and the whole shaft came out. Here is an old how to article I wrote. Maybe it can help you. Good luck and let me know how it turns out. http://www.6x6world.com/forums/conte...nsmission.html
